All Elite Wrestling has revealed that it's working on its first current-gen and next-gen console game with former WWE 2K developer Yukes, with WWF No Mercy director Hideyuki βGetaβ Iwashita also attached to the project.
The game was revealed as part of an AEW Games 1.0 Special Event on YouTube, in which AEW star Kenny Omega explained that he wanted the game to be "easy to pick up, but hard to master", name dropping titles such as NBA Jam, NFL Blitz and Ken Griffey Jr.'s Home Run Derby as his personal inspirations.
Omega also noted that fans have been asking for games with similar gameplay to Nintendo 64 wrestling titles WWF No Mercy and Virtual Pro Wrestling - "in other words, you guys want your games to be fun."
There's no official release date for this one yet and the footage above is said to be representative of a game "still early in development", but we'll certainly be keeping a close eye on its progression.

Oh man this could be good. I love AEW and they could capitalise on this as the WWE games have been trash the last few years.
I heard about the game months ago when Aubrey let it slip. I was hoping that they got Yukes for the game as I can't stand WWE 2K games now. Can't wait for this game.
Looks good and there's a developer pedigree there but.... I'm the oddball who likes Impact Wrestling (Used to be called TNA for those who don't know).
Do an AEW V Impact game!
Love myself some aew full gear was a great ppv cant wait to play this great team working on it
@JetmanUK of course sir sami calahan is my dude
FirePro Wrestling is THEE wrestling game. But No Mercy definitely gives it a run for its money.
@Spjelite82
He's good. ππ»ππ»
I loved the latest PPV, Bound for Glory, my favourite tag team and women wrestlers both won titles! That never happens.
(The North and Su Yung)
@JetmanUK Well Don Calis was on commentary during Omega/Page match on Full Gear this past Sunday so you never know.
@Spjelite82 full gear was great, Bucks v FTR was amazing.
Last wrestling game i played was WCW vs NWO on the N64.... such a great game.
I have high hopes. Mostly because of Yukes. I also have high hopes for AEW. which for now seems to be blowing TNA out of the water (remember when they released a game?)
Obviously this game could still slip up... but man, all the right words are on this page for it to be a great one!
Hopefully this means a return to decent wrestling games.
@JetmanUK my wife and I used to watch TNA religiously, but it lost something when WWE started throwing money around and poaching all their talent.
I hope this AEW game is good. It's about time a competitor came in and forced 2K to step up their game.
@Tasuki
Exactly! Hoping for a crossover. Although I'm also hoping that doesn't lead to an AEW raid on impact talent. π¬
@VenomousAlbino Yeah it would be great to have a fun wrestling game again. The WWE ones are awful. Does anyone out there actually enjoy them?!
@JetmanUK Last one I played was WWE 2K... 19, I think? Whichever one had AJ Styles on the cover. It was pretty dire, anyway. The last one I really enjoyed was WWE All-Stars on Xbox 360, which this AEW game looks really similar to.
@Fenbops Amen to that!! I highly enjoyed WWE 13 but No Mercy was the best by far!!!
Optimistic about this one as well
I remember WWE 2K20 having a Y2K bug 20 years after Y2K was cool. https://segmentnext.com/2020/01/01/wwe-2k20-refuses-2020/
The rascals are done with impact but no sure of they are going to Aew or somewhere else.
@VenomousAlbino It also didn't help with TNA being mismanaged they way it was then they lost their tv deal with Spike and it was hard to follow them. Once they got rid of the Carter family they seemed to be doing better now.
@leathco TNA or Impact Wrestling as it's called now is slowly getting back to where they were the only thing really that AEW has over Impact is a better TV deal. AEW is paired with TNT and Impact is paired with AXIS TV which makes sense since Axis TV's parent company owns Impact now after buying it from the Carter's. TNT however is seen in more markets then Axis TV (my local cable company doesn't carry Axis TV for example) so AEW has more exposure as of now.
@Tasuki
It really has been good over the past two years, there's been some great feuds and matches.
@Spjelite82
Yeah I saw this on the latest show, I think they will be off to AEW.
TBH they have probably done all they can do in Impact, its clear they aren't going to put the belts on them. I wish them well, three talented guys.
@JetmanUK Yeah I have been following it a bit from what I see on various websites, I don't watch it mainly cause I don't have time as I do have access to Axis TV. I watched it in the early days up untill their Spike TV deal ran out by then alot of their talent that Inenjoy d watching, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, The Dudley's, Kaz, Abyss etc were leaving the company or already left so I just didn't care about it as much. I started to follow it again right about the time AEW started up when I heard that Don Callis (Cyrus the Virus) was made head booker. Complete turn around from a few years ago.
And I agree I think The Rascalz are heading to AEW. For one thing AEW seems to cultivate Tags Teams more then WWE does and with the rumors that FTR are leaving they will need a good tag team to start a feud with the Young Bucks over the Tag Titles.
@JetmanUK maybe tonight new talent usually start after ppvs as they start new storylines they are pretty talented but the tag team division is stacked
@JetmanUK never felt more emotion in a few in a long time as the mox/kingston fued them promos god damn
@Tasuki
I was a big fan at its peak, the days you mentioned. I fell off it too. Basically just glanced online occasionally after that.
Got back into it at the start of 2018 I think, it's been really good since then. There's always the worry of the churn of top talent, but it's remained fresh at least and the booking has been great.
@Spjelite82 I don't watch AEW, but I did catch one of their promos. It's crazy to think how far Kingston has come on AEW. He's good on the mic, he just doesn't really look the part physically. Still, he's good.
@JetmanUK best thing about aew if you have something to offer they will use you well there aint 10 writers back stage writing promos for the guys you work hard your gonna do well
