Microsoft Flight Simulator released to critical acclaim earlier this week via PC and Xbox Game Pass, but there's still one big question on many people's minds - when will it come to console?
It was noted a couple of months ago by Xbox boss Phil Spencer that the game is targeting Xbox Series X in addition to the previously announced Xbox One, but we hadn't had an update since then... until now.
Speaking on the latest Major Nelson podcast, Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann was asked directly about when we can expect a console version, and gave the following response:
"We are dedicated to come to Xbox (console), we're working really hard to make this happen. We don't have a timeline quite yet, but we are working full speed. Because we know it's important."
Both Neumann and Major Nelson also mentioned that they get bombarded with requests about a console version, so rest assured the Flight Sim team is well aware of the demand! Hopefully it won't be too long until we can take to the skies from the comfort of our living rooms on Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
When do you think Flight Sim will come to console? Give us your predictions in the comments.

Xbox One... whoa, what ? Wait, I thought this nonsense was over...
At least for this game, I can't see it on something else than the Series S and X...
Perfect 👌 Xbox Series X is a perfect affordable hardware launching this holiday to run this game at full fledged Ultra fidelity with it’s glorious realism.
@Bobobiwan By now the highly fragmented PC market has already proven that scalability works perfectly across hardware generations, ever so since it’s PC port has shaken up the game critics and industry of next gen possibilities.
It will look like crap on Fatbox One.
Nice to hear they are taking the XSX version seriously. 👍🏻
@JON22
So then buy it on Series X. Or don’t buy it at all.
Ugh. Do people ever think before they type? 🙄
@Z3u5000 it doesn't work on a pc with the specs of an Xbone tho. It's pretty demanding. Almost like even on PC you don't have to hold back to super old cpus and gpus if you don't want to 🤔
Hopefully it’ll be a launch title on Series X. They shouldn’t even bother releasing it on Xbox One - it won’t do the game justice.
Does anyone think that MS might work with Hori to make a custom HOTAS for the console release?
I had a feeling this game would be a sleeper hit. Everyone thought because it was niche crowd, but what this game does is insane.
Anyway since I think this game streams data, it would make sense to make the XB1 version be streaming only.
I know it's a tough situation but this has to make it for the Series X launch. Now Halo has slipped having a genuine GOTY contender on launch would be amazing.
They removed all mention of Xbox One on all the MFS websites and listings everywhere
keep the map bugs!
If my PC wasn't Half Potato and horse glue I'd be playing it now looking for what eldritch horrors I can find.
@Bobobiwan XB1 version was announced back at E3 2019. Tell Me Why, Wasteland 3, Gears Tactics, Flight Sim, Psychonauts 2 and Halo Infinite are the remaining 1st party games that have XB1 versions already announced.
@Menchi Not all:
https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015204020-Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-Pre-order-FAQ
@FraserG Ok 1 FAQ remains then lol but all the other stuff has had it removed from what I could see that used to contain it.
@Nightcrawler71 The game is already DONE and RELEASED with highest configured PC taking into consideration. But there will be lot of upcoming features like VR, Ray Tracing coming in next few months.

@HammerKirby You can’t compare a pc with similar specs as xb1, there are lot of extra system level optimisations. But anyways since the game has already been DONE and RELEASED targeting highest end PC specs, XB1 gamers can choose to play it on Series X instead which will be a very economical ultra spec Flight Simulator machine.
@Z3u5000 you already know the Series X is going to be economical before the price is announced lol
@pip_muzz really can't see this being game of the year, if anything cyberpunk, ghost of tushima and TLOU2 have a better chance as this game is more niche, infa t what am I talking about there's only one game that's going to win game of the year and that's animal crossing..... Unfortunately
@Grumblevolcano Like Menchi said and I told you on NL, they removed all mention of Xbox One on all the MFS websites and listings everywhere except for a FAQ. Read what the developer said today, "We are dedicated to come to Xbox (console)".
Why people still believe that this game will be released on Xbox One when every AAA first-party game has been pushed to Series X except Halo Infinite?
Greenberg stated that both Avowed and Everwild's websites would be updated to remove the Xbox One platform. The Flight Simulator listings don't show Xbox One. The following games are Series X exclusives: Everwild, State of Decay 3, Forza Motorsport, Avowed, As Dusk Falls, Hellblade II, Stalker 2, The Medium, Fable. The only AAA first-party game confirmed to get an Xbox One version is Halo Infinite. What I mean is that all clues point towards no Xbox One version.
@HammerKirby I think he means compared to a pc capable of the same level of graphical power. A new pc with the specs of an xsx is going to be more expensive than an xsx.
@BlueOcean People believe it's coming to XB1 because there hasn't been an official announcement that it's not coming. If the next Flight Sim console trailer happens and XB1 isn't on it or a statement about cancellation happened, that would be a confirmation. As for Everwild and Avowed, those were never actually officially announced for XB1 (even the X019 trailer for Everwild didn't show any platforms)
@HammerKirby Compared to a 2000$ PC, ofcourse it will be. It doesn’t take a genius to understand the difference between economical and cheap.
@playstation_king Firstly with a name like PlayStation King I don't expect an unbiased view.
GoT is another open world game. Good but not GotY. Last of Us 2 is very fun but like all Naughty Dog games I find the gameplay somewhat lacking. Its certainly a very good game, but I don't see the pinnacle of video game design to be similar to movies.
Flight Simulator genuinely is a GOTY contender. Yes it's niche... But that means nothing. Tetris effect won GOTY from certain publications when that was released. I like Sony games but the assumption that everything they make is 10/10 GotY is something I just can't agree with.
Edit, Cyberpunk could be GOTY but I'm still dubious as to whether it will make the November release date.
@pip_muzz I never said sonys games were 10/10 heck I didnt even enjoy the last of us 2, plus flight simulator isn't even on console yet and pc games aren't usually up for the running. If cyberpunk does release this year then it's between that and animal crossing for the official game of the year award.
@playstation_king Fair enough, my bad.
I do have my fingers crossed for Cyberpunk to be released this year... I'm looking forward to that one.
@pip_muzz yeah me too, tbh looking at the games that are coming the rest of this year there really isn't much to be excited about apart from cyberpunk so I hope it's as amazing as it looks, there is a new watch dogs and assassins creed but they don't really offer anything new and gameplay is recycled from previous games, Sony have nothing apart from spiderman morales which I don't think is a full game and xbox have lost halo for this year and Nintendo have announced nothing for this holiday season, and then there's the avengers game which the beta dissapointed me. So yeah everything is resting on cyberpunk coming this year for me.
Unless by some miracle sony announce the new horizon zero dawn game as a launch title
@playstation_king Couldn't agree more. After a relatively strong start to the year the rest of it just looks barren. I'm hoping the rumoured Nintendo Direct is confirmed soon for the Mario news. I have THPS 1+2 to play when that's out but that won't keep me going for too long.
Wasteland 3 could be a surprise hit if it turns out good, otherwise it really is slim pickings. Like you, I'm not too keen on the Watchdogs, Far Cry, AC Ubisoft Games. They're not bad but they all do feel far too samey.
I am hoping both Microsoft and Sony have a hidden launch game card to play before November. Fingers crossed.
Excellent. Xbox Series X is absolutely the system I want to play it on.
@Grumblevolcano "As for Everwild and Avowed, those were never actually officially announced for Xbox One".
Wrong. Everwild had the official Xbox One mention and then they removed it.

@pip_muzz I do like the Assassin's Creed games but I think that Cyberpunk might be the game of the year, perhaps not in sales terms like @playstation_king suggests because of Animal Crossing and covid madness but I mean awards (websites, etc.). I hope that Nintendo finally announces Mario remakes/remasters. On Series X I'll have plenty with Assassin's Creed, Cyberpunk and the free remasters (Ori and Gears 5 that I haven't played yet) and especially Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 4 both at 60 FPS on Series X. Destiny 2 is also upgraded for those that play it.
@playstation_king demon souls was rated. So there is a good chance that will will make PS5’s launch.
@BlueOcean I regularly replay the 3d Mario games so that would make my year for switch.
If you've not played Ori you're in for a treat. It takes every thing from the first one and improves upon it. Probably the best game I've played this year so far. Now the technical glitches have been ironed out it's genuinely close to a perfect game. I don't intend to replay many games on the series X but Ori is one I most certainly will
@pip_muzz I'm sure I'll love Ori and the Will of Wisps! I'm a bit curious about the 120 FPS mode on Series X (my TV supports 120 FPS) so I'll play it on it.
This would be a good title to release around the Series X launch, although it's no replacement for Halo obviously, it's still would be a useful launch period title...
On a side note it seems every other comment on this site is left by either Banjo, Kazooie or a combination of the both! 😂
This is something I'm really interested in. I won't be stepping into the next generation for at least 3 years with either MS or Sony. I would love to see this on Xbox one X, but fear that Xbox one S will hold back the 1X version. It'll have to be trimmed back massively to run on 1S. Hopefully it'll be 1X enhanced.
I’m REALLY looking forward to this on XSX my only concern is going to be the install size. It’s 127GB + space for streaming downloads on PC, which is a huge tranche on the paltry 1TB SSD especially after system and quick resume space will be removed.
@themightyant If you have an external HDD connect it to Series X, Microsoft said that you'll be able to keep games on there and you move the ones you're playing to the SSD. At least, you don't have to download the games when you want to play them.
@BlueOcean Did they really? Do you have a source? I'm not doubting you but I have kept my ear to the ground for this info and haven't seen it anywhere. I did see that you can store and play Xbox ONE Games on the external HDD but not XBox Series X/S.
I also want to know if you simply unplug the same external HDD from Xbox One full of games and plug it into Xbox Series X without having to format/re-download etc.
(I have the same questions for PS5 too.)
@themightyant You can plug the same external HDD from Xbox One and plug it into Series X without having to format/re-download and although you won't be able to play Series X games installed on your external HDD, you can store them on it then copy them to the internal SSD or expansion card to play them.

I don't know if this will work on PS5, though.
@BlueOcean many thanks, much appreciated. Somehow missed that video that answers all that perfectly.
@themightyant No problem 🙂.
