We always love a good freebie here at Pure Xbox! GOG has revealed that if you own The Witcher 3 on Xbox One (or any other console platform), you can get a free copy on PC. And better yet, Xbox Game Pass members can take advantage of the offer as well. You can grab your copy from now until June 23rd at 11am UTC.
We've tested the Game Pass part for ourselves, and can confirm it's working! Here's how you do it:
- Download the GOG Galaxy 2.0 client for PC
- Connect your Xbox Live account by heading to settings, "add games and friends," and then "connect platforms"
- Wait for your library to finish updating, and navigate to The Witcher 3's game page
- You'll then be prompted to claim your free copy of the game for PC
This process applies for the Game of the Year release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as well, so if you own that version, you should get the same version on PC. However, some players are currently reporting issues with this.
Have you downloaded your free copy of The Witcher 3 yet? Let us know if it worked for you below.

I got The Game of the Year Edition so I'll try this on my old laptop until I am able to buy a decent new one that can run games. Someday.
Great! thanks GOG and CDPR! 😁
Hmm didn't seem to work for me. I linked, but no prompt to get The Witcher 3. Maybe it bugged out and I lost it?
@GamingFan4Lyf Did you click on The Witcher 3's game page after you linked? I found a prompt in there that allowed me to click "claim" and get the free copy.
@FraserG Hmm I'll look again, but it only showed the Price and Add to Cart
EDIT: It looks like I just needed to be patient. After a while, I exited the application completely and then logged back in and the alert showed up on my Recent Tab to claim the game. I wonder if their servers are now overloaded and things are taking time. Bottom line: be patient.
@GamingFan4Lyf Glad it worked for you!
@BlueOcean Unfortunately, even if you have the GOTY edition, you only get the standard one.
@FraserG thanks for the info!
@BlueOcean same
@F3NIXII Hmm. I've just looked this up again and while GOG says that you should get the GOTY version, people are having issues.
It also later tweeted this:
"Unfortunately, if you bought the base game and then added Season Pass, our system recognizes your game as base not GOTY."
Based on the responses to that message so far, it looks like the system isn't recognising GOTY versions properly at the moment. I'll let you know if I see an update.
PS: I've updated the text in the article to reflect this.
@F3NIXII Thanks. I thought we'd get the GOTY edition because of this "This process applies for the Game of the Year release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as well, so if you own that version, you should get the same version on PC".
