According to Japanese outlet Famitsu, Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox Series X will launch in the country during the "2020 holiday season". Halo Infinite, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Scarlet Nexus and Bright Memory: Infinite have all been confirmed for domestic release so far (thanks VGC).
This could mean Microsoft is aiming for a simultaneous Japanese launch with Western regions, which it previously didn't do with the Xbox One. That system was infamously released much later in Japan, arriving ten months after its original November 2013 release.
Xbox head Phil Spencer has previously stated his desire to "do a much better job with this next, upcoming launch" of the Xbox Series X in Japan, and Xbox Game Pass was recently brought to the region for the first time back in April.

Be interesting to see how it performs in Japan. My gut says it won't do well.
Xbox never does well in Japan, but I’m glad Phil is still trying.
Oh, cool! Hope it sells well!
Even if the Series X doesn’t sell well in Japan at least Phil will have tried his best by giving it the best chance at launch. I can see the Series S doing better over there as it could be an alternate console to the PS5, to play certain exclusives and have Game Pass at a cheaper price.
I hope they good in the Japanese market..
They obviously face a massive up hill battle in Japan, I struggle to see what they can do to change this...
Any ideas??
My take: Lots of RPG's, advertising, a cheaper price, recomend a friend if they buy one get some Xbox store credit...
All ideas which would cost lot's of money I'm aware for likely little gain...
It's a tough one!!
Well I think their big push in Japan will be xCloud and Gamepass for PC. Which I think have a chance to do well. It’s something neither Nintendo not Sony have mastered quite yet. But having a box there is still a good way to have presences albeit a small one.
@BANJO An exclusive Pokemon game
And I'm half serious. Nintendo has pretty much a monopoly on that market. There's no getting in. They'd have to give the consoles away for free.
@Octane Haha, exclusive Pokemon game, of course it would sell then.... I really can't see what they can do other than a gradual acceptance....
SEGA Series X could work.
Xbox Series X won't.
There's like 10, maybe 11 people excited for this new in Japan...
Japan is way to much into Nintendo. Even Sony struggle to sells PS in japan.
@PretendWorking not releasing a box in Japan would be a huge slap in the face for the products that they do sell there like Minecraft, the stuff they are porting to PC, or potentially xCloud.
These products have a chance to sell but not including Japan would be a bad idea.
It’s like the friend you have that you have to invite or they’ll get mad even if you both know they won’t come.
I’ve always wondered what it was like to be an Xbox fan in Japan. What kind of gamer would be attracted to the Xbox, from a country that’s not big on the brand. Do they have a huge, deep love of the Japanese culture? I only wonder because Microsoft’s offerings obviously aren’t the gamers of Japan’s taste, for the most part. Seeing how they seek so few units there.
