In our Xbox Series X focused roundup of Sony's recent PS5 event, we noted that the show featured 10+ games that were described as "console exclusive for a limited time." And according to PlayStation's Head of Global Marketing and Consumer Experience Eric Lempel, those timed exclusive deals last anywhere from a few months to a couple of years.
"All in, we showed about 13 titles that are launching exclusively on PlayStation 5. And those exclusive arrangements range from a few months to a couple of years. You saw some great titles: Godfall from Gearbox, Death Loop from Bethesda, Project Athia from Square Enix… "
Reading between the lines, that means we could see some of those games jump over to Xbox Series X within a relatively short period, although obviously nothing is guaranteed.
Here's a refresher of what was described as "console exclusive for a limited time" during the PS5 event:
- Kena: Bridge of Spirits
- Ghostwire: Tokyo
- Deathloop
- Godfall
- Stray
- Bugsnax
- Oddworld Soulstorm
- Goodbye Volcano High
- Jett: The Far Shore
- Solar Ash
- Little Devil Inside
- Project Athia
Needless to say, we're pretty happy about this! Sony showed off some great-looking titles such as Bethesda's Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo during the event, as well as the mysterious Project Athia from Square Enix. We're certainly hoping they make their way to Xbox Series X in the near future.
Which of these titles would you most like to see on Xbox Series X? Let us know in the comments.

Deathloop was the only one I am interested in.
They can keep Bugsnax for good. 😂
many interesting games, but it is unlikely that most of this list will be commercially successful. deathl loop is definitely an interesting concept. but the audience doesn’t accept such games very much. The game is more designed for studio fans
Godfall looks pretty beggarly, a standard slasher
for the new generation. I don't believe in its
success.
little Devil, Project Atia, Kena; Bridge seemed to be one of the most interesting. but again, it is unlikely that the games will become especially popular.
Kena looks like a fun game..
As a reminder, Square-Enix has had multiple games take a long time to get out of the gate. Project Athia may and probably is years away. I don’t know.
Kena looked good.
Godfall hasn’t impressed me, so far, whatsoever. We’ll see, obviously, but Sony can have that “exclusive”.
I’m starting to question Gearbox outside of the Borderlands franchise. And yes, I know they are only publishing Godfall & not developing it.
May Oddworld and Deathloop come soon. Such good developers.
One of my early predictions for this generation is that by the end of it, timed exclusives will be very rare. The only thing you really accomplish with this is annoying large numbers of gamers. I will more than likely buy both systems, but I know a lot of people don't, and telling them that they have to wait months or years to play a game because they didn't choose the "right" machine is an idea that needs to die.
@mousieone I wouldn't say years. All recent Square Enix exclusivity deals are one year. I don't know how successful these indie games will be on PS5 alone. They seem to find more success on Game Pass and PC.
My first thought was that likely indie games would be a few months and bigger titles like Godfall and Deathloop would be a year. But the more I think: it actually would be a lot more affordable for them to do it the other way around. Big titles would be way more likely to demand way too much money for a dull year of exclusivity, not to mention, a full year of exclusivity for a service game as Godfall can terribly cripple any change of carrying momentum once releases on Xbox.
So, now my bet is, at least Godfall, is likely to come for Xbox within 6 months.
@BlueOcean
I agree. And the indie exclusives that Microsoft showed off in May are way better than most of what Sony just showed off.
But I get that is objective & a matter of opinion. That game with strawberries......well, yea. Lol. Does that take full advantage of some SSD? Lol. 😂
@Tharsman
Godfall looks “meh” to me. Deathloop does look good, though.
@KelticDevil Godfall might not interest me much, but it fills a niche that I feel needs servicing. Games like Destiny and The Division evolved the MMO to a more action oriented realm, but also forced them into purely ranged combat. I feel there is room for the hack and slash crowd to get an action focused game like this.
But just like all MMOs (what these “service games” actually are) I have vowed to not get near one again. They are the main reason I have an unmanageable backlog of games.
@BlueOcean I meant that it’s going to take SE years to get the game out in the first place
I'm hoping Xbox Series X has some timed exclusive's also....
@mousieone I see. Good thing Final Fantasy VII Remake will come to Xbox in 2021.
Let's see - Deathloop is a must buy, Ghostwire is a maybe, Kena and Little Devil Inside both look like great fun, and... Yup, that's all I want. Save for Sony's excellent first-party output, not much grabbed me that I won't already be able to get on Xbox.
(And they can keep the dino one. Is... is that one even a GAME?)
@Royalblues Permanent exclusive, sadly. Though developed by Housemarque, Sony is both the publisher and (presumable) copyright holder. Unless PS5 fails so hard that Sony waves the white flag - which is almost impossible, given how good it looks - it ain't going anywhere.
