Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon recently appeared as part of Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest Q&A, and gave some brief thoughts on both the Xbox Series X and PS5 (thanks Twinfinite).
Responding to a question of how excited he is about the possibilities of the two next-gen consoles, Boon highlighted both systems' faster loading times as a particular point of interest:
“It’s funny, when these new consoles come out and everybody goes “OK, what do the graphics look like?” I think people are underestimating the impact that the almost zero load time is going to have. I think that’s suddenly going to open doors that weren’t considered possible before, and I think we haven’t even scratched the surface of what will eventually be done with those systems.”
Boon also went on to talk about the Unreal Engine 5 tech demo that was unveiled earlier this month, revealing that he was "riveted" while watching it. And in a follow-up, he again went on to reiterate the potential of both next-gen systems aside from their obviously improved graphics:
"To me, the graphics are kind of like a given. OK, the graphics are going to be better, but this new way of handling memory and loading and stuff like that is going to be huge.”
What do you make of Boon's comments? Do you agree? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Yup. Spot on. Goes to show you where the REAL focus of gamers should be. Not on "huh? but this doesn't look next-gen at all"...
It's a shame there hasn't been a next gen gameplay reveal event that could have promoted and explored this next gen feature.
I was playing Spider-Man on PS4 Pro the other day and I did think to myself that I don't really need graphics a whole lot better than these, but if I could get rid of the damn loading screens I'd be a happier man!
Faster load times could possibly bring back the glory that was Shang Tsung morphing. Used to be my favorite character until loading times messed that up.
