@dmcc0 no problemo! Glad it got brought to your attention. There's something just special about old sports games that gets lost in the realism of the newer ones. I know very little about football but I absolutely love FIFA 2000! It's a 3d one but it's so arcadey that it is just a really fun game for non sports fans

I am surprised that Sensible World of Soccer is still free though, did you try any of the other games in that Reddit list to see if they were still free? Might be worth updating the permanently free games list if they are still available without a Gold sub

I just thought I'd tag @ThanosReXXX @JoakimZ @BlueOcean as youve posted in this thread before in case you missed my previous post. Also @FraserG pointed out a few other free games in a recent article to do with a microsoft reward challenge so I'll list them all here:

A Kings Tale: Final Fantasy XV
Korgan
One Leaves (US only but you can just log into the US Microsoft store in a web browser to claim it)

@ralphdibny To be honest once I saw SWOS I wasn't really interested in anything else! Just noticed Ikaruga looks like it's still free too. It's on my wishlist, although would prefer it on Switch, but free is free so I'll pick it up when I get a moment.
Nothing else really catching my eye and my backlog is so big I've stopped downloading stuff just because it's cheap/free unless it's something I'm interested in.

@ralphdibny Thanks for the tips, I claimed One leaves.

I wouldn’t say Korgan is a free game though. It’s free to download, but the only thing that is free to play is a short prologue, then there is three episodes that costs money.

Just to confirm, clicked through the Ikaruga link and it is indeed still free. Another game added to the backlog....

@dmcc0 nice one, cheers for checking out ikaruga. I had the game on Switch but claimed the Xbox one a while back anyway. The Xbox version still has the ability to switch to TATE mode which is awesome because I can rotate my monitor to portrait!

@JoakimZ ah fair enough I didn't realise. It didn't look like a free to play game and I guess I just assumed it was a full game if you can claim 1000GS from the free demo. I haven't played it yet, im going to save it for a similar 10000GS for 10000 reward points deal in future!

See ya!

@ralphdibny recently bought a flip grip, which was one of the reasons I wanted it on Switch. My TV isn't that big, but doubt I'll get away with trying to stand it up on its end though 😂

@dmcc0 oh nice one! I've got one of those too but it doesn't get a lot of use though, most games that have tate mode in handheld also have it docked. The only game I can think of that restricts it to handheld is SNK 40th, which is a poor effort on their part. Surely it must require more code to restrict the feature than to just have it on both handheld and docked.

I have so many of these portrait games for Switch though, I have a few Arcade Archives, one of the Johnny Turbo arcade games, Ikaruga, Contra/Konami Arcade collections all digital and I have SNK 40th, Psikyo Alpha and Bravo physical

But yeah, I probably don't recommend tilting a TV! I don't think the weight is distributed properly in a big TV for it to be turned portrait so it will probably break. Also TVs (also a lot of monitors but less so nowadays) have a limited field of view from above and below the screen. I guess it's not as bad on some TVs and monitors as they are designed to be mounted up high on walls but I've definitely tried two player on a rubbish TV/monitor in portrait before and player 2 could barely see the screen. Like the colours go dark and inverted if you are not looking at it from straight on.

@ralphdibny yeah, my son's TV in his bedroom has a terrible field of view. I haven't actually used the Flip Grip yet; been playing mostly Xbox since I got it at Christmas and just started Paper Mario on Switch too so that'll keep me busy for a bit.

I noticed recently there is a free game is on the Xbox store called Phantom Dust. I don't think it's been posted about in this thread before. I was bit apprehensive to post about it because I knew nothing about it.

I did a bit of research and it looks like it actually has a 15 hour single player campaign. There are MTX for the multiplayer portion aparently. I know we don't normally post about free to play games in this thread but I thought a 15 hour single player campaign might be worth shining a light on!

Anyway, maybe somebody else knows more about this game than I do!

@ralphdibny I assume you're not talking about the original Xbox version, then. This is a reboot of an old action adventure on the original Xbox. That version mostly got 4 out of 5 star reviews, has a Metacritic score of 73% and a user score of 93%.

But that's obviously not the score for the rebooted version, so I've no idea if that is even remotely the same. If it is though, then it might be well worth a try, and seeing as it's free to play, you can hardly go wrong by trying, right?

@ThanosReXXX I could be wrong but I think the campaign portion is a remastered version of the original xbox game. They just added the free to play multiplayer.

Or they made the multiplayer and then added the remastered campaign to pad it out!

@ralphdibny Who knows, but it's free so all it costs to try it out, is time...

Here's a video of the rebooted version:
