As dumb as it might sound I was wondering. I have one of the White Xbox 360 Pros I think its called that was discontinued last year.  Its only about 2 years old nothing is wrong or has been wrong with it.  Well my son has been asking for the Kinect, but I really dont want to buy another 360 especially since I heard its a pain to transfer your stuff from the older Xboxs to the newer one.

So can you use Kinect with the older Xboxs or does it have to be a newer one?

All 360 models are compatible with Kinect.

With the older ones you just need a separate power cable to power the unit, but you get one in the box so it's no big deal. Also, it's really easy to transfer your stuff from older 360s to new ones. The transfer cable is really cheap, quick and easy to use!

I preordered mine on Amazon when they were first offered back in June (July?) so I was able to get mine on release day.  But, I've been checking here and there at various online places to see what the current availability is and it's been pretty spotty at best.  However, I have had quite a bit of luck finding them at normal brick-and-mortar stores like Target and Best Buy.  There usually aren't a lot of them, but they do have them.  Good luck!

Thanks for the advice Magi.  Even though my son wants one really bad I explained to him that it is one of the most have items this Holiday season so if I cant get one just to be patient.  I know that sounds hard with a kid especially around Christmas but it worked with him when the Wii came out.  I had to wait till March to get it for him which he didnt mind.  Still I will keep my eye out but I dont think he will be too disappointed if he doesnt get it right away he will have enough to keep him busy on Christmas morning with Super Mario All Stars and DKCR.

I'm not sure where you're from but I live in LA and every Wal-Mart, Target, Game Stop, etc. has tons of them.  Microsoft planned this release loads better than any other pre-Christmas hardware release.  There doesn't seem to be a shortage anywhere.

The Kinect is fully compatible with any 360.

In addition, your hard drive for your 360 Pro is fully compatible with the new 360-S.  All you have to do is physically remove the external casing.  Then plug in the hard drive into the new 360-S.  Once it's installed, all you have to do is transfer your licenses from your old 360 to the new 360-S so that you don't have to be connected online in order to play your XBLA games.  These licenses are transferred through the Xbox.com website.  There are guides online about how to move the hard drive over.
