Great game, but I'm pretty glad it's over as well. I found the first half harder than the second half. Stats show I died 35 times in total, but most of those were with the chainsaw boss (maybe the second boss in the game? defo one of the earlier ones). It took me an age to realize that holding RT didn't result in a continuous attack, and that I had to repeatedly press RT if I wanted to do multiple attacks - rather counterintuitive, I thought, for a chainsaw!
Need to take a breather, I think 😅
Let me know how you're all getting on!
@LtSarge@Krzzystuff@sib I think I'm more inclined to go with Ori over yookalaylee, simply because I haven't played the first yooka laylee. I'm not too fussed either way though so if more bods want to play YL then I'll just sit it out (unless I've played the first one by then). Also I think you've played Ori recently @LtSarge?
@sib I think gears tactics is good, I don't play many turn based strategy games so I would also classify myself as a n00b. I'm playing on normal difficulty and it really hasn't been too bad. There's been a couple of tight scrapes and maybe I fluffed it up before the checkpoint in one side mission so I repeated that a few times until I just decided to restart the mission from the beginning and did it first time. It's good but there are questionable things about it which I'll probably repeat in the Games you've recently beat thread. One is Gabe's voice acting sounds really odd, like a South park character (which I've mentioned before). The other is that the game is really buggy, but not so buggy that it's unplayable. It crashes fairly regularly, like it might crash 3 times one night and then not at all another night. Luckily it's only crashed in the menus so the only progress ive lost is the admittedly tedious squad management which I've had to redo. Also last night I had a cut scene that looked like a Windows media player music visualiser and I was thinking "oh one of the characters must be dazed and this from his point of view". Then the mission started and nobody had mentioned an unconscious person in the dialogue so I quit the game and restarted it and there was actually just a regular cut scene in place of this WMP visualiser glitch lol
Oh and well done on finishing Resi! I'm apprehensive to ask you what you think in case of spoilers! I did click your spoiler tags anyway though (much appreciated by the way) and I'm not sure my right trigger will handle something like that! It is creaky as hell
@ralphdibny I only played Ori a couple of hours before getting distracted by other games, so I still have much left to play. I was just reacting to the comment regarding playing more uplifting games and Ori doesn't quite fit that bill due to its sad story. So if we're basing our choice on that then I wouldn't pick Ori, but if people want to play the game regardless of what type of experience it is then I'm fine with playing it. I still need to finish it after all!
@LtSarge is it like Disney sad or actual sad? Because Disney style sad is still uplifting in the end normally!
By Disney sad, I mean something crushing happens in the beginning but for some reason we still show it to our kids because the music is good or the characters are colourful or just because it's Disney
@ralphdibny I mean I guess it was Disney sad but then again I haven't played much beyond the initial few hours. I do recall hearing people actually crying when playing through this game but I don't remember the specifics regarding that.
Either way, if people want to we can certainly give it a try in February!
@LtSarge sounds like it could be a goer! I think light hearted stuff often has solemn undertones but it is still a far cry from something like Resident Evil or Doom etc.
I know plent of people that have cried at Bambi and especially the Lion King!
@ralphdibny
Thanks for the feedback on Gears Tactics.
I recently tried Gears 5, not realizing it's a team shooter and stopped playing after an hour or so. I like the setting, though, so I think Tactics might be the sort of game I enjoy.
If there's anything particular you want to know about RE7, give me a shout!
I'll be sure to place any sensitive parts in spoiler tags.
@sib I played gears 5 alone because I'm a loner, unless you just mean team in terms of an AI controlled buddy? It's perfectly playable by yourself though! I finished tactics the other day, it's good but it got really buggy toward the end. I think it menu crashed about 10 times on my last night of playing it which was annoying because I just wanted to sort out the troop recruitment before I started the last mission!
A few tips to avoid losing loads of menu micro management progress: I think the game saves when you open the loot crates, dismiss a troop, recruit a troop or spend skill points. So I was stripping troops of their gear then doing one of the above so I wouldn't lose as much fiddly menu progress when it crashed!
@ralphdibny
Yeah, I'm not a fan of AI-controlled buddies.
One of the reasons I'm hesitant to play Nier which, otherwise, would be fairly high on my games-to-play-next-list!
Thanks for the Gears Tactics feedback.
It sounds like it might be better to wait til the bugs are patched..?
XCom2 is on sale at the moment as well.
From what I've heard/seen/read, they appear to be pretty similar in terms of gameplay!
@sib ah fair enough! I think it was weird for me at first but I'm glad I played all of them alone, I don't think I could handle a buddy speaking over the cut scenes or skipping them entirely. Could be worth a revisit if a friend is down to play though.
Could be worth it if they are going to do a patch, it's been out a while now though. I do wonder if they were planning something then it would probably get reported on by this website. Which it hasn't so I'm afraid that in this case that no news may be bad news! Aparently these bugs were present on the PC version too so they've had a while to sort something out! 🤷♂️
Ah yeah LtSarge mentioned xcom when I was chatting to them about gears tactics. I have it from PS Plus but I haven't even tried it due to its length (32 hours for story only). I do wonder how it would play though. Gears tactics supports mouse and keyboard on Xbox which is how I played it, not sure I could get used to playing that sort of game with a controller. Might be worth a go though as similar but simpler games like advance wars and fire emblem are perfectly fine with a controller!
@ralphdibny
I've downloaded Gears Tactics.
Planning to give it a bash after I finish Jedi: Fallen Order (which I'm really enjoying).
Found another couple of similar tactical strategy games on Xbox - Wastelands 3, and Desperados 3. If Gears Tactics proves a little too buggy, then I'll probably pick up one of these, or Xcom..!
@sib ah lame fair enough! I didn't realise you were over in Japan! Also didn't realise the game pass line up was different between regions, I wonder what other games are different 🤔
Happy Xmas Game Clubians (or happy holiday or happy whatever personal or communal festival you attribute to this time of year, mine is the completely secular consumerist celebration of buying loads of rubbish for people that will probably end up on eBay by the following Xmas).
It's ten days until January and therefore ten days until we begin Ryse Son of Rome. Ten days to finish up Resident Evil 7 if you've started it or intend to play it and to post any additional thoughts on it!
Sadly I didn't get around to Resi 7 this time but hopefully Ryse should just be a bit of a mindless single player romp that's doable in <10 hours. I've got it loaded up and ready to roll.
Have a good week all! I hope it is nice and festive etc. I'll see you all back here on January 1st 2021!
@ralphdibny Happy holidays! I sadly don't think I'll be getting around to RE7 anytime soon. The course that I've been reading focuses primarily on group assignments and I've just been working nonstop every day trying to put together papers while having meetings with my group. On the side I've been trying to play games that relax me so I don't think a horror game would help in this regard, lol. I'm also not sure about Ryse, but hopefully when I'm done with my last assignment I'll get a better picture on where I'll stand. The game isn't that long to be fair, the only issue is being in the right mood for it which I'm currently not. But we'll see if anything changes until then!
@ralphdibny I still haven't gone back to RE7 since my second night playing it. I really need to jump back into it and finish it up. I just played Ryse last month, was my very first download and play on the Series X. I'll add on my comments about the game mid month but everyone should definitely give it a go if you already haven't....it's a fantastic game.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone! Still a few days to go so I'll be wishing it again soon.
@ralphdibny Ooh, Ryse is one of those games that I saw stuff about at the time but never actually played it. Definitely will give that a go if I can power through Code Vein.
Heads up also for anyone here that our January game on PushSquare is Devil May Cry V, if anyone’s interested.
