Topic: Games I might like ?

I like games that provoke some thought, like Lara Croft. I like first person shooter games to, but not killing just for the sake of it. So, can anyone suggest a few games I may like that make you think, but with weapons too?

Thanks all.

@rhb123 ALL XB1 games as well as some 360 and OG Xbox games are Xbox Series X playable games - some with Frame Rate boosts, some with auto-HDR and some with Resolution boosts too.

Most FPS games like Halo, CoD, FarCry etc all have campaigns with narrative reasons to shoot things. I'd say Doom is more killing for the sake of killing but most games tend to have a Story that sets up a 'reason' to kill, Save Humanity/Earth etc, defeat an enemy that would 'kill' you etc.

Dishonored, Deus Ex, Deathloop etc and games like that do have more 'systems' to use, more ways to 'complete' objectives - some without 'killing' at all if you don't want. They have 'non-lethal' take-downs for example or some 'skills' to bypass hostiles using stealth.

There are a LOT of options from over 20yrs of gaming all playable on a Series X. I'd recommend Game Pass so you could 'try' various games from Action/Adventure or the Shooter category that you can try out yourself, make up your own mind as to whether a game is 'worth' your time or move on to try something else - At least you aren't 'risking' buying a game you don't know whether its 'right' for you or not.

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

That's a great and welcome reply, thanks. Maybe while you're about you could explain what the game up-grades are? I've seen for example an older game with xbox upgrade. Is that done automatically when you buy the game ONLINE only? Do you have to make it happen, or is it automatic in the price, and how would you know. The Game pass at £10 a months seems a no brainer, I'm getting the Xbox SERIES X NEXT WEEK. Big grin.

@rhb123 It does depend on the game and/or dev/publisher. Some games have 'free' upgrades and if you 'own' the game, it will 'download/install' the Series X version (if playing on a Series X). You don't 'need' to buy something digitally all the time as 'Smart Delivery' will still install the 'best' version for the hardware. If you buy FH5 on Disc for example, it may have just the XB1 version on it, but if you put the Disc in a Series X, Smart Delivery would download and install the Series X version anyway.

Some 'upgrades' are handled at a system level - things like Frame Rate boosts, Resolution boosts and/or Auto HDR - although these tend to be more 360/OG Xbox games. However, if they do offer an 'upgrade' its still a free upgrade.

Some games may well charge for an 'upgraded' version on Series X - similar to PS5. It just depends on the Publisher. Its not so common on Xbox but you may find some 3rd Party publisher will charge more for a 'Series S/X' upgrade or 'dual' generation version ($60 for XB1 version - $70 for XB1/XSX version). Therefore there is no hard and fixed rule about 'upgrades' on Series X - most are 'free' and/or utilise Smart Delivery to ensure you have the 'right' version for your Hardware and buying 'digitally' will more likely give you access on PC's with 'some' games - again Smart Delivery knowing you are playing on a PC or whatever Console SKU you own to install the 'right' version where ever you choose to play.

Games with 'Smart Delivery' will likely just install the 'best' version for whatever hardware you are on - buying Digitally often will give you access on PC too - at least with 1st Party games. I'd recommend Game Pass Ultimate - which is £12 a month as it includes 'Gold' (required for Online gaming), EA Access (more games), Game Pass for PC (to play on PC at no extra cost) and of course Cloud Streaming (to try games before you decide to 'wait' hours to download/install or play anywhere the cloud can reach). If you have GPU, you can play FH5 on PC (PC version), Console (the 'right' version for whatever Xbox console you play on) or Cloud stream it to ANY compatible device - your 'save' is cloud based anyway so your progress/achievements etc are carried over all platforms.

Unfortunately, not EVERY publisher is as 'consumer' friendly so will charge for upgrades and/or PC versions but first party is generally a different matter.

@rhb123 you might enjoy the Farcry games. Since it’s recent next gen update I have been really enjoying Farcry 5! It’s on gamepass, so well worth trying if you have a subscription. It’s also regularly on sale for under a tenner.

@rhb123 no problem mate, some of the other suggestions of Cyberpunk and Dishonoured are also well worth a look. Dishonoured is one of my favourite game series and they are all on game pass too!

@rhb123 I don't know if you have played them already but Resident Evil 0 and 1 are focused on puzzles, on optimising resources and on planning the exploration of the surroundings but also have weapons.
