Talking Point: What Are Your First Impressions Of Gears Reloaded On Xbox Game Pass?

It's basically a updated version of the ultimate edition except Dom is an idiot in this one and offers literally no help in combat!
That said I'm still glad to play it with new achievements but it's still basically ultimate edition series x/s enabled 🤷✌️

A bit disappointing to be honest, it really is the same as the last remaster upscaled to 4K and slightly different color grading (more akin to the OG 360 version), was looking forward to 120hz mode but it’s currently a mess with big FPS drops, also had to disable the shaky cam while running as it made me dizzy.

Finished Act 1 but I don’t think I’ll keep playing as I’ve played it many, many times, would’ve appreciated the same treatment for Gears 2 and 3 that currently don’t have any remaster.

If you compare the cutscenes side by side with the Ultimate Edition, you will struggle to notice the difference.

I have completed a solo Hardcore run, and I was shocked by how broken the friendly AI is now. Dom is either charging headlong into the action and being instantly downed in an area you cannot reach, or, more likely, standing idle right at the start of the level leaving you to kill everything yourself. He is about as much use as he is in Gears 4 and Gears 5...!

Honestly, Microsoft have done the bare, bare minimum to the game, raising a couple of specs so that they can sell it to the PlayStation crowd who will enjoy the game because they have not had it before. If you have played the game in recent years, you may as well save your time and play something else instead because what Microsoft have done here is truly not worth your time, and I speak as probably the biggest Gears of War fan to frequent these forums.

TLDR: Very disappointing. I'm not surprised Microsoft gave me a free copy, because I'd have been complaining bitterly had I paid for this version...

Haven't tried it yet but I notice that it is still sitting as "mixed" on steam user reviews. 740 positive versus 636 negative.

If I have time, I might boot it up on gamepass but there is no way I would pay $40 for this.

Kudos to xbox for not delisting the previous remaster or original game though.

Picked it up on Steam gladly to show support for this series. Played through it on PC, but I was also happy to see it runs exceptionally well on Steam Deck. I hope they remaster/remake the rest of the old Gears games.

I hardly replay a game just for better visuals/performance alone.

I haven't played it yet but I don't feel the 'need' to jump back into it as I have beaten the 360 and Ultimate Edition versions and I had heard there was some 'bugs' so I felt that I can certainly wait to play it.

Its a 10yr Old game with a 20yr old Core and given away 'free' to owners of the game already. If I hadn't received a 'free' code, I certainly wouldn't have bought Day 1 or pre-downloaded on Game Pass despite being a Gears fan.

I wish they 'updated' it more and certainly improved the AI which feels like its 20, yrs Old and extremely limited/frustrating. It just seems like its the 10yr old game with the settings changed - output Res now 4k, Frame rates not capped to 30, other visual settings turned up from medium to high (or better), but NOTHING else tweaked, updated, improved or expanded on - its ore a Port than a 'remaster' as a remaster I believe should have new Assets created, new features or techniques added (lumin/Nanite), Improved physics, AI etc.

Of course we know that its main purpose was more to release the game on PS5 rather than provide a second remaster for their OWN customers. They probably didn't expect to sell any copies on Xbox as its 'free' on Game Pass and the Ultimate Edition is playable on Series Hardware - therefore they gave 'free' upgrades away so the MP has some Xbox representation as many probably won't buy it a 3rd time, certainly not at launch when they can play the Ultimate edition for a lot less money.

I'll probably just play this on my RoG Xbox Ally X when I get that - a Play Anywhere game that has been Verified and according to those who played it at Gamescom, it played very well.

At a glance, the gamepass version seems to be identical to the regular Xbox version they have for sale.

Being honest didn’t go again as played the remaster on series a while ago.
Anyway need to deal with:

Yooka remaster, will get it cheaper
Outer worlds 2
NG4
COD campaign

It’s good but nothing crazy amazing. It’s just Ultimate Edition with higher resolution and textures, better lighting, and HDR. I mean it looks good, but nothing earth shattering.

Shocked they could’ve had done this to Gears 2 and 3 as well considering how, at least from a consumer standpoint, it seems like a pretty basic upgrade. I guess already having Ultimate Edition done was half the battle.

I find it absolutely wild that given there's a whole decade between Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Gears of War: Reloaded, all we got was Gears of War: Reloaded. In ten years we couldn't scrape together remasters of Gears 2 and 3? Wild.

@Fiendish-Beaver my immediate thought was "Dom wasn't in Gears 4 or 5", then around 15 seconds later realised that's the joke 🤦 Time for bed, I think.

Coming from an outside perspective, as a very casual Gears player, who has played Gears 5 multiplayer a few times a year, Gears 3 multiplayer every few months, but mostly modern Halo, and now Battlefield 4, 1, 5, 2042, and the 6 beta, I’ve enjoyed the prevalence of people being on the mic, i love the pre- and inter- match lobbies, and it’s great Gears fun, but it’s kind of plain (understandable for a straight remake of 2006), and sometimes the lobbies seem to just not work?

Overall, 9/10.

It's Ultimate Edition with a new coat of paint, and a healthy PvP population now that we have PlayStation guys on there. I just question how long they'll stick around once they see how brutal Gears can be, when you go up against really good players it's incredibly oppressive and it feels like there's literally nothing you can do.

I prefer the artstyle of the original 360 version.
This one, lacks that darker and gritty look. And the changes to some of the character designs, isn't great either. Wish they had changed it back, in this re-remaster.

Not played it yet but I'm sure I'll love it.

Would have been more excited, if this was a Trilogy collection.

I love Gears but this is a skip for me. It's the same game as the 2014 game. I think Gears Of War is a bit too slow paced in the movements these days. Was surprised only 1 million people played the game across every platform, especially considering Game Pass had it for free and there's over 20 million subscribers.

Perhaps Gears isn't going to make a comeback after all?

I'm enjoying it a lot, didn't play the ultimate edition and haven't played Gears 1 since it originally released.
Bit of a nostalgia glee going on, with me, for sure

I was surprised by how they translated it in such an astonishing way.
Only the cutscenes have dubbed audio.
During gameplay, it seems they found it too much trouble, so it's subtitles only.

Apparently, reusing the Xbox 360 audio data is quite a hassle.
Still, considering the Ultimate Edition wasn't translated at all, this is a significant step forward.

Actually I'm glad I didn't have to buy it. I got the free upgrade from Xbox.
It's the best version of this game, yes.
But also, it's a very short game and lacks the improvements of Gears 5 in every game mode. It's still a nice classic to play and still great in coop, but also very short and not as good as Gears 2 and Gears 5.

@Kezelpaso was the question specific to people accessing the game through gamepass (i.e. not including people who purchased or received a free copy through owing the previous remaster).

I played through the first remastered game earlier this year and thought it was showing its age a bit - lots of corridors and courtyards and quite grey/brown to look at - so I don’t particularly fancy trying it again.
