Indie developer Bulkhead Interactive have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a new Unreal Engine 4-powered World War 2 multiplayer FPS by the name of Battalion 1944.
The team behind the game consists of ex-AAA developers and ex-modders, and their core vision certainly appears to be a good one. They say that they want to bring back "classic" FPS gameplay using the power of UE4, where players win based on the skill that they possess, as opposed to how many unlocks they've triggered or how many add-on packs they've purchased. All unlocks will be purely cosmetic.
Dedicated servers, anti-cheat software, and season-based objectives and leaderboards coming under the name of "BattleRank" are on the cards, as well as the ability to team up in a Platoon.
With a goal of £100,000, the campaign has only been a live for an hour or two and has already racked up nearly £4k at the time of writing. Should they meet their goal, Bulkhead is aiming to deliver Battalion 1944 in May of 2017. Xbox One owners can secure a console game code at the £22 backer level.

Yay...another WW2 game..how original.
Just remaster World at War already, that's all everyone wants!
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi
Actually, I hated World At War.
And I think the WW2 revival wouldn't be so bad as long as it's done right. This game, however, just sounds like a rip-off of Battlefield 1942. The updated graphics would be nice, but there are so many stories to take from WW2 & these developers just want to churn out another online multiplayer FPS. No thanks.
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi Hey at least isn't Nazi Zombies.
@KelticDevil
I didn't either, that's just the general view it seems. The last thing the Xbox needs is another online FPS..
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi
I completely agree.
@TwilightOniAngel Haha, I like those games. Sniping without compromise, awesome!
Make it with a decent single player campaign and I'm in - I really miss fighting the Nazis in the likes of COD 2 and the Medal of Honour games. I grew up watching endless WW2 films and enjoy that period in time and the weaponry available. I'm getting weary of all the modern and futuristic shooters now. There was a time when everyone said the same of WW2 games but it seems like an eternity since we've had one. Having said that - making it multiplayer only turns me right off, we've got dozens of those already
Although WW2 games where done to death in the last generation of consoles, I'd very much like to see a AAA WW2 title at some point, one which will be different from COD, Medal of Honour etc. Just a gripping story campaign, based on actual events, and with the power of this generation of consoles, it could be amazing!
@MaccaMUFC
I agree. I am waiting to see what Gearbox has up their sleeve with the next Brothers In Arms game. That series always told a good WW2 story.
@jongred Yeah they're not that bad.
@TwilightOniAngel well, they are not very good but still entertaining enough (in my opinion, and talking about zombie army trilogy here, not sure about other zombie nazi games. I think ZAT is good in coop at least
@jongred Co op in ZAT is a must. Playing solo? Eh it's decent the game is meant for Co op.
@TwilightOniAngel Do you still have it and have you completed it on the highest difficulty? I have yet to do that myself and I am ready to replay ZAT actually. Add me if you're up for some zombie (nazi) sniping.
