Xbox One Titles To Get "Free Play" Days Soon

Posted by Ken Barnes

Interesting developments

It appears that Microsoft is testing a new Xbox One feature that allows games to be available for free for a limited time. In the US - although not in the UK, we've checked - some Xbox Preview Dashboard users saw that Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is listed as being part of a promotion called "Free Play Day with Gold."

Xbox Support claim that an official announcement will be made shortly regarding the development.

Depending on how this works, we could see some big-name titles appearing as part of the Free Play Day system. Certain games - that maybe can't be completed in 24 hours or that offer compelling multiplayer modes - could go live on the system as a promotional tool, essentially replacing the need for a publisher to produce a demo. We'll wait for an official announcement before we speculate further, though!

Hmmm not so sure about this. So a game is free for a day and lets say I find out after I come home from work. Now I have to download this game which will take anywhere between 2-10 hours depending on the game and by then the free day may be over. This sounds like a good idea but put into practice I think it will be very very dumb. They have things called demos nowadays, not sure why they went the way of the dodo bird but they were there.

@EternalDragonX of course you have great websites like this that will tell you when a free day is upon you, and now you can remotely download games via smartglass while you're at work so it will be ready for you when you get home.
