Talking Point: The Elder Scrolls Is Now 30 Years Old As We Await Xbox's First Series Entry

Believe it or not, today marks the 30th anniversary of Bethesda's legendary Elder Scrolls series. The franchise's PC debut β€” The Elder Scrolls: Arena β€” launched on March 25th, 1994 - and it's safe to say that the team hasn't looked back since.

Three decades on, and in the wake of an astronomically successful mainstream hit in the form of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, we're still waiting for the first Elder Scrolls game since Microsoft bought Bethesda. It's hard to wrap our heads around, but yep, The Elder Scrolls 6 will be an Xbox first-party release when it arrives.

Of course, in recent months the landscape has changed, with Xbox bringing some of its titles to other platforms - not to mention its list of third-party Call of Duty deals to come in the wake of the ActiBlizz takeover. Regardless of where Skyrim's sequel ends up releasing, we're still incredibly excited for its huge launch.

The earliest we can feasibly expect the next game in this legendary series to arrive seems to be 2026, but in all honesty, it could be quite a lot further away than that. Both Microsoft and Bethesda will want to absolutely nail this one - The Elder Scrolls has become one of Microsoft's biggest franchises since it came under Xbox's wing.

Anyway, enough about the future, let's reminisce about The Elder Scrolls' past here. From the series' Xbox debut with Morrowind to the phenomenon that is Skyrim, we've enjoyed some amazing years with this famous franchise, and we want to wish it the happiest of 30th birthdays. Here's to one legendary RPG franchise - now officially an Xbox IP!
