When it comes to narrative impact and tough decisions, none do it better than the masters at Telltale Games. At least, that's my opinion.
Reviews for Telltale's The Wolf Among Us Remastered are pouring in, and it looks as though polishing up the iconic 2013 narrative adventure was well worth the effort.
Once again, however, the Xbox reviews fall short of a full score on Metacritic, only publishing 3 out of the required 4 reviews to get a final average rating.
So, let's have a gander at some of the impressions for The Wolf Among Us Remastered so far:
GamingTrend (9.5/10)
"The Wolf Among Us Remastered is still the best in class when it comes to narrative adventures, with reactive choices that don’t overhype themselves as “changing the story as you play”. It’s a more subtle, grounded title that’s a joy to revisit, particularly with the enhanced visuals and deleted scenes."
CGMagazine (9/10)
"The Wolf Among Us Remastered is the definitive way to experience this episodic adventure cult classic. However, since it deliberately sticks very close to the original, current owners will have little incentive, outside of the promise that the choices will carry over, to double dip."
TheGamer (9/10)
"You won’t find a new story to experience here. Still, if you played through the original years ago and are looking forward to The Wolf Among Us 2 next year, this is the perfect way to revisit the story before then, and you won’t be disappointed."
Checkpoint Gaming (9/10)
"Despite a few small issues, the new team at Telltale has renewed my faith in the franchise. The Wolf Among Us Remastered is more than just a fresh coat of paint; it’s never been a better time to step into the Big Bad Wolf’s shoes, meet people and creatures from fairytale legend, and hunt for a mysterious killer in the grimy alleys and clubs of '80s New York."
Noisy Pixel (8.5/10)
"The Wolf Among Us Remastered gives Bigby Wolf’s acclaimed murder mystery a welcome visual and performance upgrade while preserving the strong writing, player choice, and atmosphere that made the original memorable. Its aging animations, QTE-heavy gameplay, and limited new material keep it from feeling truly modern, but newcomers are getting the best version of a Telltale classic."
IGN (8/10)
"The Wolf Among Us Remastered revamps Telltale’s beloved episodic adventure, adding neon highlights to its already vivid world full of complex characters. While the pacing still dips slightly toward the end, nuanced performances and heart-pounding quick-time events quickly reel you back in as you bear down on the killer. It’s disappointing that some of the original’s stiff animations haven't been ironed out, but the stunning environmental redesigns and a solid suite of bonus features more than make up for it. Though not entirely definitive, this remaster is a powerful reminder of why The Wolf Among Us earned its acclaim – and with a sequel on the horizon, it's a brilliant way to either revisit or catch up on a neo-noir mystery that still deserves its flowers."
Console Creatures (8/10)
"The Wolf Among Us Remastered is a great return to one of Telltale‘s best titles. It might not include any new story content, but it feels complete. I’m eager to return to Fabletown with The Wolf Among Us 2, but in the meantime, the remaster is a brilliant entry point for a new generation. Aside from some lingering dated animations, the remaster of The Wolf Among Us is filled with excellent moments."
Final Weapon (8/10)
"The Wolf Among Us Remastered is the perfect appetizer ahead of the sequel's release. It brings the fantastic narrative to a new audience, with plenty of additional features for longtime fans to appreciate. While some of the lighting changes diminish the original's identity, and the relatively small amount of new additions are a tad disappointing, the overall quality of both The Wolf Among Us itself and its remaster are more than enough to justify the asking price."
Game Rant (8/10)
"Overall, The Wolf Among Us Remastered is a good remaster of a great game, and it's as simple as that. It falls into some of the same trappings as the 2013 title, and in some ways, it might skew closer to the 2013 game than the fan expectations for the 2027 title. To some degree, that's to be expected. But what's clear for anyone wanting to replay TWAU is that this is the definitive and best way to play it now and ahead of The Wolf Among Us 2 in 2027."
Well, there you have it, folks! The Wolf Among Us Remastered has a score of 86 for PC, 85 for PS5, and is sitting on an overall score of 85 on Metacritic.
To round off with a personal note, I haven't played The Wolf Among Us yet. It's one of those games I've always been interested in playing, but never really found the time to get stuck in. When I heard the remaster was on the way, I thought I'd hang tight to play that instead.
