Rumour: Xbox Could Have A 'Pretty Big Surprise' Lined Up For Gamescom 2026

While Gamescom is always an interesting event that's filled with third-party reveals for Xbox consoles, it's not usually a place that any Xbox Game Studios projects are announced, although that might be about to change this year.

A rumour started gaining traction yesterday from apparent insider NateTheHate2 on social media, who advised that they'd heard of "a neat Xbox announcement that should be at Gamescom", but later clarified that they're "still working to confirm whether or not the game will have a definite Gamescom presence".

According to them, it's a new entry to an existing IP, it's definitely not Banjo-Kazooie, and it's not being developed by a Microsoft-owned studio even though it's an Xbox IP.

Windows Central editor Jez Corden also talked about this on the Xbox Two Podcast Patreon page recently, suggesting that he'd heard about the rumour and that it would be a "pretty big surprise" if true.

However, he's since reiterated that it's very much a pending investigation and he's not 100% on it:

It's best not to expect anything for sure, then, but it certainly sounds like Xbox has some kind of surprise announcement to share at some point in the near future, even if it doesn't happen at Gamescom.

We'll keep an eye out either way, with Gamescom Opening Night Live set to take place on August 25th followed by a couple of dedicated Xbox Gamescom livestreams on the 26th and 27th. You'll catch all the coverage here at Pure Xbox!
