Stalker 2: Cost Of Hope Gets August 2026 Release Date For Xbox, PS5 & PC

Launches alongside major 2.0 Unreal Engine 5 update

GSC Game World has just announced the first major expansion for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is set to release on August 20, 2026.

We got a new trailer for the upcoming DLC Cost of Hope, which introduces two new regions with plenty more "horrors and mysteries of the Zone" to encounter. The expansion arrives alongside a massive 2.0 Unreal Engine 5 update.

"Explore Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and Iron Forest — two new regions with new horrors and mysteries of the Zone. Dive into the iconic conflict between Duty & Freedom that will take dozens of hours to sort out and even that will not cover the full picture until you see both sides of the story."

The 2.0 Unreal Engine 5 update will be free of charge and looks to make the game more "stable and gorgeous", whilst the new DLC can be purchased separately, or with an upgrade to the Stalker 2 Ultimate Edition.

We had a pretty rocky experience with Stalker 2 at launch, with its unforgiving survival mechanics failing to fully impress us. Since then, GSC Game World has been hard at work improving the game, focusing on making it run and play better on Xbox Series X|S.

With the first major DLC and UE5 upgrade on the way, we're feeling much more hopeful that August 20th could be the perfect time to return to the Zone. We'll leave you with a couple of screenshots from the trailer below:

Would love to see how the game reviews after this update. That's the thing that saddens me when it comes to reviews, they are obviously given at a moment in time when the game is often in its weakest state. Now, I accept that is on the developers, but we also know that they often face huge financial pressures to get the game out at the earliest opportunity, which means we often don't get the best version of the game.

If you look at the reviews for Cyberpunk 2077 for example the quality upon release compared to now is night and day. Obviously they released the Phantom Liberty expansion, which completely changed the game for the better, but it also enabled the game to be reviewed for a second time (by some outlets). The point being though that the difference is such that it is a much better game now than it was at the time of release, and I am sure the same can be said of S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2, and when you consider the adversity that the studio has faced you have to hope they find some success now.

Anyway, the TLDR point is that I wish games that have really been transformed would receive a later professional review...
