This definitely ain't no sleeper train, that's for sure, with critics raving over just how much fun they're having with the game. I'm fairly certain plenty of you out there won't have heard a single kick-flipping thing about Denshattack! until now, so here's the rub:
Flip, trick and grind your train in a fast-paced, off-the-rails ride through a colourful Japanese dystopia. Outmatch rival gangs, wreck a shady megacorp, and take back the tracks with nothing but skill, speed, and style.
Just moments ago, Denshattack! launched onto Xbox Game Pass and is currently holding a 'Generally Favourable' Metacritic score of 88. Bloody 'ell, that's impressive! This one wasn't really on our radar too much, but boy are we delighted to hear it's turned out to be a real belter!
Here's what the reviews have to say:
Eurogamer (10/10)
"Irreverent, unpredictable, funny, and unputdownable, Denshattack! proves that a commitment to aesthetic and game feel can make any game feel like even more than the sum of its parts."
IGN (9/10)
"Denshattack’s learning curve can be steep, and you’re going to make a lot of mistakes before you master its long list of input combos – but if you can get past that, it’s an excellent anime-inspired train-tricker, and I enjoyed every second I spent in its world. Nothing stops this train."
DualShockers (9/10)
"Denshattack! may not have the most highbrow story in the world, but you know what it does have? F-U-N, FUN. High-speed, high-flying FUN of the highest caliber. Every aspect of this title's gameplay keeps you roaring along the track at breakneck speeds with constant wacky setpieces and new abilities, to the point that you’ll never be able to predict what it’ll throw at you next."
But Why Tho? (9/10)
"Denshattack! arrives as a wonderful surprise in all the right ways. It provides hours of explosive goofy fun, immaculate visuals, an amazing soundtrack, and more, resulting in a truly entertaining and memorable experience."
Game Informer (8.5/10)
"Denshattack is weird as hell, and it leans into its strange premise with earned confidence, constantly building and layering on its ideas throughout. It avoids any whiffs of boredom by ripping through environments at full speed, but that also didn’t give me much time to take it all in and immerse myself in the admittedly absurd world. When you’re too busy having fun by avoiding every potential crash along the way, though, maybe that proves stopping and smelling the roses is overrated."
Push Square (8/10)
"Denshattack is a blast. While it may present a steep learning curve at the beginning, its unique, arcadey gameplay rewards skill and quick thinking in a way that feels old school and fresh at the same time. From its silly, train-tricking premise through its challenging, fast-paced action and colourful presentation, it's a cohesive game that delivers big fun at every turn in the track."
