The folks over at Toys for Bob are busy working on Spyro: A Realm Reborn for Xbox right now, which we absolutely can't wait for, but they've also indicated their interest in bringing back one of the most classic Rare IPs of all time.
Yes, the Crash Bandicoot 4 and Spyro Reignited Trilogy studio is keen to work on a new Banjo-Kazooie game if the opportunity arises, as discussed by the Associate Creative Director (Louis Studdert) and Studio Head (Paul Yan) of Toys for Bob on a recent episode of the Kinda Funny Gamescast.
The pair were specifically asked about Banjo, and had the following to say:
"It's a franchise we love. As platformer fans, Banjo's top of the heap. We have some huge, huge fans of that franchise on our staff - I'm talking, they've got the Jiggie as their profile pic, kind of a thing. They're that level of fan. If the opportunity ever arose, that would be amazing. We love the franchise."
"If you look at the through-line of the types of games we like to make, I can imagine that's part of that staple as well. I think of [those characters] as timeless. They're iconic, and I think the types of games we want to produce are ones that speak to a timeless place in the player as well, an ageless place - we call it the "inner child". So, I think they're wonderful games, we're huge fans."
For whatever reason, Xbox has never appeared interested in revitalising the Banjo IP since Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts in 2008, and it remains to be seen what new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma thinks of the series' future potential.
It's surely going to be a while before Toys for Bob can do anything regardless, as they've still got a lot of work to finish on Spyro: A Realm Reborn. Nevertheless, they're clearly interested in the prospect, and unless Xbox has already got Rare working on a new Banjo game, we reckon the Spyro developer is the perfect fit for a series reboot.
