
The 2026 edition of the Game Developers Conference gets underway this week, and Microsoft is there in a big way this year, with a huge display showcasing the storied history of its Xbox gaming brand.
Indeed, alongside the team "building for what's next" at GDC, a collection of important moments throughout the history of Xbox are on show at Microsoft's booth this year, and we're starting to see images of them crop up all over social media, as press and industry reps appear at the conference this month.
We'll share a bunch of those down below:
Alongside these press shots we're seeing, Xbox boss Asha Sharma has herself shared a lovely look at that OG Xbox prototype we used for our lead image up at the top. This thing still looks badass, even more than 20 years after it first appeared!

Of course, with Project Helix now out in the wild in name and concept, all eyes are on Xbox at GDC this year - and indeed whether we'll see anything else of Microsoft's next-gen Xbox during the conference. While we wait with baited breath for news on that, it's always worth a look back at the history of Xbox, and all of the important hardware that's come before it.
