Ubisoft has announced today that Assassin's Creed Unity is getting a free next-gen upgrade to 60FPS (frames per-second) on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S this Thursday, March 5th.
The upgrade is coming to PS5 at the same time, and we assume that's the platform it's targeted at, as Assassin's Creed Unity already runs at 60FPS on Series X and S thanks to the Xbox FPS Boost program. That makes the upgrade potentially redundant for Xbox users, but it's nice to see Ubisoft making it a native addition nevertheless.
We know some of you have been waiting for it for a long time, so get ready to re‑experience 18 century Paris and Arno's fancy parkour moves with more smoothness on consoles!
Of course, there's a chance they may have boosted the resolution and made small visual improvements for this release (although nothing has been said about that yet), which would be very welcome considering it only ran at 900p resolution on Xbox One and remains that way on Xbox Series X and S at the time of writing.
If you fancy checking it out for yourself and trying to spot any differences between this version and the FPS Boost version, Assassin's Creed Unity will also be playable from April 2nd to April 6th as part of the Xbox Free Play Days program. In fact, Ubisoft will be making multiple Assassin's Creed games playable this way.
"And for our Xbox players out there, we've got a little treat, as multiple Assassin's Creed games will be playable for free for a limited time for Xbox Free Play Days, from April 2 to 6! Perfect time to try Unity in that 60 FPS beauty."
We'll keep an eye out for the free upgrade tomorrow and try to bring you some footage ASAP!
