We know it felt like an age for Hollow Knight: Silksong to finally arrive last year, but Team Cherry is quickly following up that release with a brand-new version of the original Hollow Knight; and that free Xbox Series X|S upgrade is out now!
Yep, the OG Hollow Knight from 2018 has just been upgraded for current-gen consoles, featuring "higher frame-rates, higher resolution and additional effects" along with "additional updates and refinements across all platforms". That's a nice surprise!
We initially thought this 2026 upgrade for HK was just for Nintendo Switch 2 - but nope, all current-gen platforms are now benefitting from the above improvements. Better yet, Hollow Knight is still a part of Xbox Game Pass, meaning subscribers are getting an updated version of this fan-favourite Metroidvania at no extra cost.
Of course, its younger sibling Silksong is also on Xbox Game Pass with plenty of current-gen features, so you can now play them back-to-back in all of their Xbox Series X|S glory. In case you were wondering, these games can get quite addictive when you get into the swing of things!
