Those of us who are enjoying Switch 2 right now are pretty intrigued to see which games Xbox brings to the platform in the near future; the team has plenty of recent games to move over, right?! Wrong, current-gen Nintendo players are being treated to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim once again.

Yep, Xbox's Bethesda team has today shadow dropped Skyrim Anniversary Edition on Switch 2 (that means a surprise release for those of you who aren't down with the lingo). You can have a look at this new new new version of Skyrim via the trailer up above - a version that Bethesda says features "enhanced resolution, improved load times, and optimized performance".

"Winner of over 200 Game of the Year Awards, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition returns with a newly enhanced adventure for Nintendo Switch 2. It brings the legendary open-world fantasy experience to life like never before, at home or on the go.

Owners of the Anniversary Edition on Nintendo Switch can download the game for free on Nintendo Switch 2, while owners of the base edition on Nintendo Switch can purchase the "Anniversary Upgrade" to then download the game on Nintendo Switch 2.

Whether you're a longtime fan or stepping into Skyrim for the very first time, the Skyrim Anniversary Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 delivers the definitive way to experience this iconic fantasy RPG."

New Skyrim ports have been a running joke in gaming for years now, and you know what, it actually felt like high time we got another one. Bethesda recently announced that Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition will be making its way to Switch 2 next year, so why not have Skyrim join it as well? You know it makes sense!

With the 2025 releases of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 & Skyrim and the upcoming 2026 launches of Fallout 4 and Indiana Jones, the Activision and Bethesda teams are clearly intent on supporting Nintendo Switch 2. As for Xbox Game Studios? Well, we've seen nothing yet - but we're intrigued to see if they follow suit in the coming months.
