It's been 22 long years since adventure game Syberia first debuted on the original Xbox, and today it's received an overhaul in the form of Syberia Remastered, which is available for Xbox Series X and S at a price of £24.99 / $29.99.
This is more than just a simple remaster as well, with the original version having been "beautifully enhanced" with totally rebuilt 3D environments, a fresh but faithful art direction, and a "smoother and more intuitive experience" when it comes to puzzles. At least, that's the intent behind it!
But what are the reviews saying? Well, they've started dropping across the web over the past few days, so let's take a look at what some critics think of Syberia Remastered so far:
GameSpace (9/10)
"Syberia Remastered masterfully blends a classic foundation with modern technology, faithfully honoring Benoît Sokal's original creation. While it has its minor imperfections, the game stands as a remarkable achievement by the development team. This beloved classic now breathes anew, introducing its unique world to a new generation. The original could have lived a long life on its own, but this Remaster brings it one step closer to eternity."
GameTyrant (8/10)
"It would’ve been nice if the remaster pushed further: Maybe more restored assets, more recut videos, more extra behind-the-scenes material. Instead, this is more of a careful tune-up than a bold 2025 rebuild. But taken for what it is, Syberia Remastered is a beautiful revival of a genre-defining adventure, perfect for nostalgic fans who were there the first time and curious newcomers who want to see a true classic."
GamesCreed (3.5/5)
"Syberia – Remastered is a faithful revival that balances nostalgia with modern enhancements. While it has minor technical and stylistic imperfections, it successfully reintroduces a timeless adventure to new and returning players alike."
GamingBolt (7/10)
"A product of its time, revamped for the present, Syberia Remastered offers a sleeker look at the start of Kate Walker's adventures but loses a bit of the original's magic in the process."
Adventure Gamers (3/5)
"Syberia – Remastered is a solid, engaging adventure that’ll go down well with fans of the original. Aside from a few quirks, it was fun to play, with a moody yet whimsical atmosphere and well-crafted world."
The Beta Network (4/10)
"Syberia Remastered has a soul: a moody, melancholic one, but it’s buried under layers of frustrating gameplay, awkward pacing and outdated design that even its new quality of life features can’t save. What should’ve been a journey of fun adventure and discovery instead feels like a museum tour where the guide forgot the script. Quite literally, in this case."
As you can see, there are definitely some mixed impressions here, but in general it sounds like they've done a decent job with the remaster. Certain people seem to feel the game is now outdated though, while others think it's a classic!
It's too early for a Metacritic rating here, but OpenCritic has it sitting on a 73 average as things stand. As mentioned, the game is available to buy now on Xbox, and we'll leave you with a few more details and screenshots for it down below.
