Rumour: Ex-Obsidian Dev Suggests Avowed 2 Is On The Cards, But 'No Plans' For Outer Worlds 3

I imagine they will go back to the outer worlds 3 before too long.

Avowed is fun but the story and characters are pretty meh.. I hoped it was like a super fleshed out proof of concept for a bigger better sequel, but that didn't go super well for Outer Worlds imo. Outer Worlds 2 is basically just more of the same and the writing just hasn't grabbed me

I would rather more Pillars of Eternity but can see how Avowed is more appealing to a larger audience.

I wouldn't be surprised that 'no' plans for an OW3 exist yet as they have only just finished the releasing the 2nd and no doubt still have plans for this.

Avowed is now an 'old' game and no doubt that team are more advanced in planning their next project. Just because OW3 isn't 'planned' yet, doesn't mean it won't be at least considered - especially if OW2 is a popular success.

I enjoyed Avowed a lot but I hope we see a similar jump in the scope & depth of the actual rpg mechanics that we saw between the two Outer World game.

Whatever the case I imagine that it will be a day one purchase as I am happy to play pretty much anything Obsidian release.

What surprises me is Obsidian's pace. They release a multitude of games every year, are involved in dozens of IPs, and they all end up being great games.

I think it's by far the most worthwhile purchase Microsoft has ever made.

@Gabrie The pace at which Obsidian releases games doesn’t surprise me. They was one of the few decently large independent studios… Studio their size that are independent don’t last very long. They’re always on the verge of collapse. They can’t sit on their laurels and have to consistently pumping out new titles as the company always have to stay profitable.

Insomniac games is the same way… Luckily both studio have kept that foot to a pedal mindset after being purchased unlike a lot of studios. It so easy for companies to go “Oh! We’ve been purchased. We don’t have to worry about bills being paid cause we don’t pay them ourselves no more”

Watch Obsidian being closed down after yet another bad game. Non of their games have appealed to me, and frankly I am not alone with that. Can’t even get 100k players on steam, absolute disgrace.

If this is true (and I mean IF given it’s not confirmed), this doesn’t seem surprising at this current stage!

Based on their history, they probably haven’t greenlit Outer Worlds 3 as they’re likely working on DLC for it. Avowed we’ve not heard anything about DLC, and they’re bringing turn-based to PoE which suggests they’re keen to expand the world.

This makes sense to me at this stage, and I suspect they’ll greenlight Outer Worlds 3 in the future once the DLC is nearing completion

Gosh, no sequel news for a game that’s barely a week old? You don’t say!

But definitely sign me up for Avowed 2. Day one.

I loved Avowed and is definitely in my top 5 games of 2025. I’m hyped for a sequel, as I am for NG+ for the first game.

I welcome Avowed 2 with open arms.

Really wanted Avowed to be great, but it was just okay. They also sadly have racist devs working at Obsidian, so there is that.

I thought Avowed was OK, but the Outer Worlds 2 seems a step up. The RPG systems are a lot better and it feels another level or two towards a true immersive sim experience.

I hope Avowed 2 just copies the OW2 RPG system.

Obsidian is one of my favourite studios. They seem to always be pumping out new content. They may not ship every game as a 10 but their games are generally solid and fun to play.

I get he's specifically talking about sequels to recent games, but I hope this doesn't mean Pillars of Eternity 3 isn't getting worked on as well. After all, a medium sized studio like them only has so much room to develop games at once.

Obsidian doesn't really make great games without Chris Avellone which is a shame. Pentiment has been their best but even that only felt "good" after playing Pillars of the Earth. I hope the 2 sides mend fences at some point.

If you think Obsidians recent games have good writing, that's fine, a lot of people like Marvel movies too, we're just not going to agree.

Anyways modern games have been a major let down, this isn’t the WiiPS360 generation, which had banger after banger after banger back to back, what did we get this generation, literal garbage back to back. (I remembered the word now, obviously). Toodles.
