One of the biggest Game Pass surprises this year so far has been Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - we expected big things from this one but Sandfall Interactive's turn-based RPG blew us away back in April! We weren't the only ones massively impressed either, and as it turns out, the team already has plans to build out the 'Clair Obscur' franchise beyond this first expedition.
Talking with YouTuber MrMattyPlays (via Eurogamer), Sandfall's Guillaume Broche reassured us that Expedition 33 is "not the end" for the series, and that 'Clair Obscur' is the franchise itself - a franchise that will be expanded on in the future.
"Clair Obscur is the franchise name,
Expedition 33 is one of the stories that we want to tell in this franchise. Exactly what it will look like and what the concept will be is still too soon to announce, but what is sure is that this is not the end of the Clair Obscur franchise."
Despite a follow-up being many moons away at this point, it's great to hear that the studio has more plans for Clair Obscur. Admittedly, expectations will probably be much higher for any sort of sequel - but given fan reception to Expedition 33, it's a franchise that deserves to stick around for years to come. Especially as it gave new life to the turn-based RPG genre!
Whenever the next expedition lands, we'll be here for it, and we'd love for another Xbox Game Pass launch as well. The first one was an absolute delight as a day one title - we ended up giving it a full 10/10 review score earlier this year at Pure Xbox.
