It's been a busy year so far for Xbox first-party, but despite us being in the slower summer months here, the team isn't stopping there. Nope, the productive folks over at Obsidian are about to drop another big release this month in the form of Grounded 2 - with the game's early access story trailer now live.
You can check out this fresh look at Grounded 2 up above, which sets up the basic premise for Obsidian's follow-up to the surprisingly left-field Grounded - which first came out all the way back in 2020 at this point. Here's what the team has to say about its upcoming sequel:
"Shrunk again, but the world is much larger. In this open-world, single-player or co-op survival adventure, craft weapons and armor, build your base, and traverse the playground on your buggy. But something else is out there—and it hasn’t forgotten you."
Just like the original, Grounded 2 is going down the early access route, with that initial release coming next week; July 29th to be exact. It will then sit in Xbox Game Preview for a chunk of time, as Obsidian continues to build on the experience before its full 1.0 launch somewhere down the line.
As we hinted at up above, this marks the second major release in what's set to be a very prolific year for Xbox developer Obsidian. This team already dropped Avowed back in February, and it's positioned to deliver one of Microsoft's big fall releases later this year with The Outer Worlds 2. What a year it's been for them - we wish them all the success with its trio of 2025 projects!
