Xbox Adds 20+ 'Stream Your Own Game' Titles To Kick Off New Month

Perhaps someone get let me know this.

I have streamed both on PS5 and Series x.
Both first party games of similar requirements and quality.

My overall experience is the PS5 transfer to game was smoother.
Overall picture quality and movement etc better on PS5, even with Spider-Man 2.

So the thing is Xbox keep pushing this streaming games, but have an inferior product compared to Sony on PS5.

It just sounds so daft and wrong that way round when Xbox keep pushing game streaming, shouldn’t Xbox have the best and fastest quality service and gaming experience.

In UK really good internet at 200mb/sec.

@OldGamer999 I've had some solid experiences with XCG, but I'll admit, there's a LOT of room for improvement. I think we're going to get a big push this year or next - the amount that they're supporting as of late certainly points in that direction. Quality and resolution could do with a bump, as well capacity (I believe it was capped at just 5000 concurrent in the UK last I heard).

I'd use this feature if it wasn't locked behind GPU. If I'm subbed then I'm typically playing GPU games and earning rewards with them, not playing owned games.

@OldGamer999 @Kaloudz same, very hit and miss. They have a stream menu when you do it via Edge now and you can see the bitrate fluctuating, so even when I have no packet loss sometimes the bitrate falls to 3mbps and the lag/fuzzy image kick in.

If they sort that out, it'll be brilliant in the UK

@Coletrain Wait, how do you stream via Edge? I only ever used the Xbox App on the mobile or tablet and didn't know you could access this sort of information. I have fairly decent internet (200mbs same as OldG) and mine dips at times too - sometimes (rarely) I'll get a total disconnect. It's serviceable, 110%, but definitely room for improvement.

Like I said I think with all the support we're seeing (more now in the last year than ever before by the looks of it) we will be getting a big bump and maybe an upgrade in the coming year.

@Kaloudz it's xbox.com/play and then you can choose remote play or cloud gaming. It's giving me a much better picture quality than the app, probably as it's now more supported! This is on a Rog ally though so technically a PC, YMMV.

I agree, I hope this year but deffo before the next gen comes they will bump up the service massively. They want it at geforce now quality, but obviously that means a lot of server blades and cloud space!

Edit: mine is only 72mbps with BT but more than enough for what the requirements are

I just thought overall that Xbox pushing game streaming the most and having I think the very best server warehouse etc, would make for the best quality game streaming, beating everyone else hands down.

@16BitHero I actually think it should be free like remote play is, would be a nice incentive to stick with Xbox in the future...I can dream...

@OldGamer999 they limit the bitrate to 10 (mobile/tablet) or 20mpbs (PC) intentionally. In fairness, that's enough for 720p and 1080p streaming, but it's the inconsistency that's annoying, which increasing the bitrate would help with coz you wouldn't notice the dips.

I've no idea what they're running off, presumably series S or X blades, whereas nvidia are using RTX 3080 and above for the 2 top tiers

@OldGamer999 You'd think so, given that they have an almost sort of head start here - but perhaps they're leaving a huge push for next gen?...

@Coletrain Thanks man I honestly didn't know. Interesting to hear that it is better than the app too - you'd think they would be on parity but in this day and age you just never know 🤣 I'm muddled up though - for us in the UK - isn't it Ubisoft that provide the service as per the CMA or am I crossing my wires?

@Kaloudz oh man the ubisoft thing is so stupid. So to stop MS having a monopoly on cloud gaming services in the UK, the CMA awarded Ubi the license to (edit: Activision blizzard games on) xcloud gaming meaning Xbox pays them a fee to use the servers. But the servers are...wait for it...Microsoft Azure servers.

So basically Ubi have the license and MS have the infrastructure, which they have to pay Ubi to use. So dumb.

@Coletrain ‘So dumb’ explains at least 90% of everything that government gets involved with. Bureaucrats are generally utterly clueless when it comes to just about anything & everything…& this was on full display throughout the CMA’s idiotic handling of the situation with Xbox.

@mjswooosh funny how the CMA were all over this one but have done nothing to foster competition in the water and energy markets 🤔

But yeah this one where MS is paying a licence to use it's own cloud centres I thought was particularly silly

@Coletrain Wait, hold the phone. MS pays Ubisoft to use MS services? In a nutshell? That makes zero sense, especially considering the state that Ubisoft are in as of late. Much as I love them, weren't they close to folding not so long back? I'd assume under those circumstances, the license would have to be passed to someone else - like Sega?

@Kaloudz yeah Ubisoft use MS servers. Think the UK only uses two main ones in London and Cardiff. Madness isn't it. If they folded it would be open season, and MS would be eligible to bid for the licenses (CMA would probably try to step in again)

I re-read my last post as the edit didn't make sense, to clarify this is just for acti-blizz games, MS has the licence for the rest of their cloud offerings in the UK.

I suppose to get back on topic, I hope like you that the service improves coz I like using it occasionally 🤣

@Coletrain Man the CMA... What an absolute crap show that was. Still, it was pretty funny to watch those court videos as it unfolded. Ah right, so it's just ABK titles that apply? That still sounds pretty bloody stupid to me. Like people are tripping over each other that much to play Crash and Spyro via the cloud that they need to partition the rights off to a different company.

And yes lol! I'd definitely like to see a bit of improvement. The UK is set to be on GB broadband as standard within the next few years I believe, so it makes sense.
