Earlier this week, we highlighted how the System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster had been delayed slightly for Xbox (and other consoles) but the PC release was going ahead - and the game has now officially launched on Steam.
Because of that, we've got a few official reviews to look over! System Shock 2's remaster currently has an impressive 84 rating based on 12 reviews over on OpenCritic, and you'll find a roundup for some of them down below.
So, here's a selection of reviews for the System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster so far:
TechRaptor (10/10)
"For many, System Shock 2 was considered among the best of the best. With the System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster, it's more accessible than ever and feels incredible to play — it looks great, too."
PC Gamer (85/100)
"I'll cut to the chase: This is the way you should play System Shock 2 now. You could approximate the remaster with a constellation of mods and quality of life fixes... but Nightdive's System Shock 2 removes the headache, offering a well-curated suite of changes and upgrades (with some of that dedicated mod community even represented on the dev team)."
Eurogamer (4/5)
"In short, System Shock 2 remains great, but its star has dimmed slightly over the last quarter-century, revealing brighter celestial bodies in the process. Nonetheless, if you like your shooters brainy, your levels knotty, and your nightmares weird as hell, System Shock 2 still delivers in a way that's more accessible than ever thanks to Nightdive's sterling work."
CGMagazine (8/10)
"There has never been a better time for System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster to grace consoles once again, and it’s a must try for fans of Sci-Fi."
These are excellent reviews for System Shock 2's remaster, then, although it's not like there aren't any grumbles - something that comes up in a few of them is how it's not on the level of the System Shock Remake in terms of visuals.
That's probably to be expected considering this is a "remaster" rather than a "remake" though, and everything else is sounding great so far! As mentioned, System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is out now on PC, and it'll be coming to Xbox at some point in the first two weeks of July. Not long to wait for this one!
