Marvel's Black Panther Game Reportedly Cancelled As EA 'Sharpens Focus' On Its Lineup

A couple of years ago now, Marvel and EA announced that they were collaborating on a Black Panther game being crafted by new studio Cliffhanger Games, but that all looks to be coming to an end here in 2025 - with nothing to show for it.

Per a new IGN report, EA has cancelled this Black Panther project and is closing down its development studio, Cliffhanger Games. The site claims to have seen internal emails about the decision, where EA cites plans to "sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities" as core reasons behind the game's cancellation.

IGN says the email continues with a reminder that EA is now largely focusing on its core franchises, including Battlefield, The Sims, Skate and Apex Legends - although Motive's Iron Man game and another Star Wars Jedi title from Respawn are also still in active development.

Not to lay the bad news on too thick, but one final note here is that EA is also "laying off some individuals on both its mobile and central teams", although it will seemingly aim to give those affected employees other opportunities within the company. It should be noted that we haven't seen the emails in question, and we're taking IGN's word for these developments at this stage.
