Random: The Hit VR Game 'Beat Saber' Will Soon Be Playable With Your Xbox Controller

Whether you own a VR headset like the Meta Quest 2 or not, there's a good chance you've heard of Beat Saber. This rhythm game is one of the most popular experiences in virtual reality right now, and it's particularly great through PCVR thanks to its thriving modding community.

One of the newer mods being developed for Beat Saber is called "DeckSaber", and it's going to allow you to play the game with an Xbox controller - no headset required! All you'll need to do is buy the game for PC via Steam, install the DeckSaber mod, and then connect your controller in order to play.

Here's a look at what DeckSaber looks like in early development:

If you want to try this out for yourself, the current development builds are accessible via the Modding Pink Patreon, although keep in mind that the first public version of the mod is planned to be released for free later this month.

We've loved playing Beta Saber in VR so far, so we're really hoping it translates well to a controller. The early footage looks promising, but we have a feeling there's probably a bit of a learning curve...!

Here's a bit more information about DeckSaber from the developer:

"DeckSaber is a Beat Saber mod that allows you to play the game without a VR Headset using any Steam compatible game controller, yes that also includes the Steam Deck!

This mod is in very early development. I have yet to come up with a fair scoring system, which is why all notes were hitting 115s. This style of play will eventually feature its own leaderboards. Don't worry, score submission *for now* is currently disabled. This mod will release sometime this month."
