After a bunch of rumours and game ratings going around throughout the day, Microsoft has finally revealed that Age of Empires is making its long-awaited console debut! Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition hits Xbox Series X and S on January 31, 2023, with Age of Empires IV to follow at some stage later on next year.

The Age of Empires 2 remaster has been out on PC since late 2019, and its reception on Steam has been great so far! The Definitive Edition has almost 100k reviews on the platform, amounting to a "very positive" rating overall. Here's what to expect from the game when it hits Xbox next January:

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition celebrates the 20th anniversary of one of the most popular strategy games ever, now with stunning 4K Ultra HD graphics, and a fully remastered soundtrack. Age of Empires II: DE features “The Last Khans” with 3 new campaigns and 4 new Civilizations. Frequent updates include events, additional content, new game modes, and enhanced features with the recent addition of Co-Op mode!

Following on from AoE 2, Microsoft is bringing the fourth game in the series to consoles as well! For now, we don't have a more specific release window than "2023" for Age of Empires 4, but here's a gameplay trailer from the PC launch, showcasing the game in action:
