MW2

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - that's the new one, not the 2009 one with exactly the same name - has been holding its multiplayer beta on Xbox over the weekend just past, and irate players have been taking to the internet in their droves to complain about the game's "Dead Silence" perk, claiming that it is, in fact, giving away their positions.

Yes, as reported by the lovely folk over at GamesRadar, and according to posts on the game's official Reddit, the perk, which should be hiding player positions by removing the sound of their footsteps, is actually getting them absolutely done in. Yep, apparently when you activate this particular perk the game makes a loud pinging sound to let you know it's successfully turned on, but sneaky enemy players are now zeroing in on the noise to get the drop on their wanna-be stealthy opponents. Oh dear (language warning!).

There have been a few other complaints with the multiplayer beta for Modern Warfare 2 so far, with another bug that fills the screen with smoke also being flagged up, but hey, that's what betas are for and it's good news for developer Infinity Ward that all this stuff is being recognized and dealt with before release.

Have you been playing Modern Warfare 2's beta? Has your life by cut short by an annoying ping that's given away your location? As always, let us know in the comments.
