Today's Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 gave us a fresh look at the upcoming Ark 2, which is still scheduled for release at some point in 2023, and will be launching day one with Xbox Game Pass.

The developers say Ark 2 is "the biggest canvas ever for primal survival experiences, a next-generation framework to play out your own survival stories", and all aspects of Ark: Survival Evolved have been retouched and improved upon.

Interestingly, the controls and movement for players and creatures takes inspiration from Assassin's Creed (automatic parkour) and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (climbing), while the human-scale combat draws heavily from souls-like action with "an emphasis on dodges, blocks, light and heavy attacks, combos, and player-reflex skill".

We're still waiting for our first look at Ark 2 gameplay, which apparently will come "down the road", and the game's developers are confident we'll like what we see. Oh, and mods will also be available for PC and Xbox this time around!

"Put simply: with Ark 2, our goal is to make the game that we all wanted Ark to be — now that we’ve had the time, resources, and knowledge to do it right. Next year, when Ark 2 launches with Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, we’ll look forward to seeing you all in this new world of primeval creatures and legendary heroes."
