Update (Mon 14th Dec, 2020 10:30pm): Microsoft has since clarified the exclusivity surrounding Ark II, calling it a "console launch exclusive" for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
"Now with Ark II, players will be thrust into a brutal new world of primitive survival against both beast and man, facing down the ever-present threats of hyper-realistic intelligent dinosaurs, aggressive alien fauna, and the exotic environments of an unearthly planet. Survivors will continue Ark’s dramatic eons-spanning story of humankind’s evolution, in this next-generation sandbox survival experience."
Original story (Fri 11th Dec, 2020 10:15 GMT): Here's a surprise we weren't expecting at The Game Awards 2020 last night! The next entry in the ARK series has been revealed, starring none other than Vin Diesel, and it'll also be an Xbox console exclusive!
There's very little information to go on about the game so far, other than it's coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC, but you can check out the lengthy trailer above, complete with plenty of Vin Diesel hack-and-slash action.
Here's what Xbox exec Aaron Greenberg had to say about Ark II following its announcement:
"We are excited to be working with the Studios Wildcard team on bringing ARK II staring Vin Diesel exclusively to Xbox Series X|S consoles."

So does this mean the sequel will be story-driven?
The whole trailer just looked really off...
If its just like the first I ain't bothered..
Another series x/s only game hmmm...
Must have a campaign if they are pushing this so hard to feature Vin Diesel. Count me interested if it does.
Just couldn't get into the original.
Timed exclusive or permanent?
This just looks weird. I can't quite put my finger on why but Vin Diesel looks really like Vin Diesel with perhaps cartoon animation? The fighting looked off. Will give it a chance though as a CGI trailer means nothing really but will wait and see how this is received by the site before I write it off completely.
@StonyKL I thought the same thing when I saw it. The combat animations looked...disjointed (I guess would be the right word?)
Wasn't a fan of Ark and Vin Diesel is a dreadful actor, so I guess I'll be passing on this
Love Ark. Ark is still my most played game on Xbox, and is the reason I'm interested in upgrading to a Series X.
I never played on the official online servers, but I have a server that I play with my friends on. We have tons of fun. I schedule a couple days off work/family duties per year where we just meet up and play on our Ark server for maybe 8 hours straight. Good times.
This sounds like it might be more single player focused, which I'm okay with. Definitely worth a shot, and maybe they'll have improved the multiplayer as well.
@HollowSpectre you feel this way because they managed to capture the full acting scope of Vin Diesel, that tends to be less than that of a poorly animated CGI.
Seriously, it looks like they mocap Vin. I love the guy and see every movie he is in, but got to say his acting is sooooo flat.
So it's coming to PC. Yet another non-exclusive 😏
@Kefka2589 for a second at the end of the trailer, when he looks at some digital stuff, I thoght this was some Riddrik game where he got stuck in a primitive planet.
But yea, usually animatiors for movie CGI do a manual pass to exaggerate many animations after a motion capture. For some reason, our brains still can notice what we are looking is fake, and at that point it demands it be over-the top.
So Sony gets Final Fantasy 16 and we get Ark 2?
@LX_FENIX technically the devs are indie, so it’s comparable to Returnals.
@HollowSpectre it was just really weird. i also hate it when people quickly get over seeing their friends die in movies and games, etc. a woman sacrificed herself for the little girl two minutes ago, and she's smiling and happy by the end. that always catches my attention lol
Looked good, for a ps2 cgi trailer
@Kefka2589 I’ve never been into Ark but I know it’s popular. My friends husband keeps bugging me to play it with him ._. Umm how bout no? The animated series I’ll probably watch.
@LiterallyDoNotCare Yet much better than Switch version. I don’t get the appeal either.
@HollowSpectre I got the same vibe. It wasn't a very fluid trailer.
