GoldenEye Trademark Update Hints At Remaster Release

You may remember that earlier this year, there was a lot of hype behind a 007 GoldenEye remaster. A set of Xbox achievements for GoldenEye 007 — a remaster of the N64 classic — leaked on January 1st. This came about a year after a cancelled Xbox 360 port leaked online, which itself led to official remaster rumours at the time.

Things have quietened down since, but is something still coming? Well, a recent trademark, granted on March 15th, hints that a new version of GoldenEye could still be in the works. The trademark is an extension, allowing the holder — Danjaq, LLC — to use the GoldenEye name for "downloadable game software".

That sounds a lot like a GoldenEye remaster release to us. In mid-February, it seemed certain that its release was imminent, but unfortunately, the remaster never materialised. Achievement art for the game even leaked too, alongside the achievement list.

2022 is the 60th anniversary for James Bond though, and this new trademark gives us hope that the remaster could still launch this year. Stranger things have happened, right?

Do you think this 007 remaster will ever actually come out? Let us know in the comments.
