It's time for another (slightly later than usual) round of Pick One! This week, to celebrate the recent release of the Unreal Engine 5 'Matrix Awakens' tech demo, we thought we'd look back at the two Matrix games on the original Xbox.
All we want to know is, which is your favourite? Remember, you can only pick one!
Let's take a look at what we're working with:
Enter The Matrix (2003)
Enter the Matrix is the story behind-the-story. It features awesome gunplay, spectacular martial arts, insane driving, breathtaking stunts and the chance to pilot an incredibly fast hovercraft. This game isn't just set in the Matrix universe - it's an integral part of the entire Matrix experience weaving in and out of the 2nd instalment of the franchise, The Matrix Reloaded.
The Matrix: Path of Neo (2005)
Gamers play as Neo, but from the moment the game begins, how the situations play out, how they handle them, how they deal with the events, where they go, how people react to them — it's all up to the gamer. They may win where Neo failed or find another way to solve the problem — the path is now theirs to follow.
Let us know which of these Xbox Matrix games is your favourite below.

I only played the original. It wasn't anything special, I think a lot of people were critical of it at the time. Come to think of it, it was kinda cool how they came up with a whole unique story for the game with real actors in the cutscenes. Never played Path of Neo, and I just played that new tech demo they released and I didn't think it was anything special. So I guess they never really made a great Matrix game, but it's clearly been a big inspiration to where I think stuff like the Max Payne games were probably the best Matrix games.
I have a huge soft spot for Path of Neo. Sure it had problems but I absolutely loved how hard the devs tried to recreate some of the most iconic parts of the movies. The part in Matrix Reloaded where Neo faced off against hundreds of Smith clones was really impressive for the tech it was on! Sure if you watch it now you can see the smoke and mirrors they used to trick my young mind into thinking I was actually fighting hundreds of Smith clones (in reality it was more like ten🤣) But as a kid I was blown away!
I absolutely loved Enter the Matrix, brilliant game. I’ve somehow missed Path of Neo! I think I was more likely to be at the pub when that one came out. Wouldn’t mind a remaster of them. Need to get home from camping to check out this tech demo.
I had both but Path of Neo was so good. I loved the fighting system and playing was Neo was way better!
Also, that ridiculous ending is one of the most ridiculous things of all time lmao
Enter the Matrix has not aged well, didn't seem to really know how to do dual analog sticks, but the narrative was super cool. Path of Neo plays better. Both have their strengths and are worth visiting but I voted Neo.
Enter The Matrix is and always was a very bad game what we accepted because its all we had , once The Path of Neo came out it made ETM redundant because why play as Will Smith's wife when i can play as Jesus himself in all the classic moments and more from the films.
The fact ETM is higher so far just shows people are blinded by nostalgia and never played the far far better game. Like seriously how could anyone put ETM over The Path of Neo, its like putting the Jeremy Renner Bourne film over the Matt Damon ones.
I bet most who voted for Enter the Matrix only played Enter the Matrix as it got a lot more publicity (comments here are already proving as such). Path of Neo was a much better game.
When I was in college in 2003 I traded in a Dreamcast with 20 games 3 controllers and a fishing controller. As well as a an N64 with six games. I got $80 for the whole thing. (Major GameStop rip off) and I purchased Enter the Matrix. I was a poor college student that needed the money to play new games. But that was the worst gaming decision I ever made and I hate that game to this day bc it reminds of that lousy trade. You live and learn I guess. Life moves on.
Enter the Matrix was terrible, lol. Deservedly panned in it's era for being a buggy and unfun mess.
Path of Neo has always seemed like an apology for the broken promises of EtM. I didn't bother with it as there was so much more to play at the time and the franchise had slipped into absurdity.
Looks like a lot of you played the inferior Matrix game. Path of Neo was a great game, fun combat, nice Easter eggs for the HK cinema fans, and you played as freaking Neo 😎
Didn't know there was a game for matrix. I wasn't really much into gaming back then tho.
I've always been so frustrated by Path of Neo.
Why ?
Because I've got the damn game, right under my eyes, as I'm typing this, and no console to play it ! The disc isn't compatible with xbox 360 (which I believed when I purchased it, years ago) and neither with One or Series consoles, off course.
I was really expecting a final BC shadow drop of these two games in order to celebrate the movie, but... no.
I want to play Path of Neo, so I'm trying to install the PC version right now (easy to find when you're looking a little), but I don't know how my poor laptop will go with this one.
By the way, I've watched again the trilogy, to be prepared for next week. Say what you want about those two sequels (which I love) but the first one is an instant classic that will never grow old.
I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say Matrix Online. Yes, it was not good, and yes it didn't last long. But man, did I enjoy that game, being in a multiplayer Matrix world. For some "clans", you even had to proof you were a hacker by bypassing the website to get to the application page. I liked it a lot.
