Surprisingly, Hades Is Metacritic's Xbox Game Of The Year For 2021

We mentioned back in August that Hades had soared over Microsoft Flight Simulator to become Metacritic's Xbox Game of the Year for 2021, and even despite the releases of Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite since then, it's managed to retain its crown — boasting an incredible 93 rating on Xbox Series X and S.

The beloved rogue-like dungeon crawler actually first released for Nintendo Switch in 2020, but ended up coming to Xbox platforms a few months ago. Here's Metacritic's full list of top Xbox games of the year:

  1. Hades - 93
  2. Forza Horizon 5 - 92
  3. Psychonauts 2 - 91
  4. Microsoft Flight Simulator - 90
  5. Mass Effect Legendary Edition - 90
  6. It Takes Two - 89
  7. F1 2021 - 88
  8. Hitman 3 - 87
  9. Death's Door - 87
  10. Halo Infinite - 87
  11. Tales of Arise - 87

PSA: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 (the next-gen upgrade) and Yakuza 6: Song of Life also received scores of 89 and 87 respectively. Everything else that isn't listed here received an aggregate score of 86 or lower.

Regardless of whether you agree with Metacritic's list of the top Xbox games of 2021, there's no doubt it's been an excellent first year for the Series X and Series S, and there are many other games that could have made this lineup.

Hades has come out on top though — and don't forget that you can play it right now with Xbox Game Pass!
