Indie titles are hitting Xbox Game Pass every week at the moment, but there's one that seems to constantly be capturing Xbox boss Phil Spencer's attention, and that's Lost Words: Beyond the Page.
Spencer's love for the game began in April when he described it as a "really a special game" with a "fantastic atmosphere, writing and mechanics". That's some mighty high praise!
"I'm playing this game and it's really a special game. Fantastic atmosphere, writing and mechanics. If you haven't given it a try I recommend it."
It continued when the game was announced for Xbox Game Pass earlier this month, prompting Spencer to highlight it, claiming it's a "very creative and unique game" and he was "looking forward to more people getting to play" it.
"Very creative and unique game. Looking forward to more people getting to play."
Then, when it was actually added, he was back again — this time thanking the studio for the partnership:
"Very touching game with a really creative point of view. Thanks for the partnership on #XboxGamePass."
Now, Spencer is still broadcasting the game but appears to be at a loss of words. Seemingly running out of ways to praise it, Spencer has simply taken to uploading a picture of the game with generic hashtags.
Sometimes actions can be louder than words and seeing Spencer dedicate this amount of time and praise to Lost Words: Beyond the Page this year says a lot. Having joined Xbox Game Pass this month, maybe it's a sign we should all drop what we're playing and give it a proper go.
The Microsoft Store description says you'll spend your time within a "young girl’s diary to solve puzzles, tackle unique platforming segments and discover an emotional tale set across the vibrant world of Estoria". It sounds pretty enchanting and judging by Spencer's praise, it's a game we should probably not miss.

I bought this game awhile back and have just now gotten to play it- It’s a special game. I think it deserves the praise. I’m glad that it came to GP so people that might not have purchased it get a chance to experience it.
I will try it out soon 😁
I loved Artful Escape but this one I just could not get into.
This one got me right in the feels. Excellent game that deserves a bigger audience.
This, and The Artful Escape both blew me away recently.
@Deadcow
Exactly! After about half hour I just couldn't do it.
I have played and finished this game I did enjoy it but as I have seen in a couple other replies the girl did become pretty annoying. I do recommend this game if you are a fan words and writing. I also recommend Typoman and Letter Quest games.
Like @Mamabear, I strangely started playing it this weekend, but not because it was just added to Game Pass. I needed to take a break from Kena on the PS5 because I was stuck on a boss and was too frustrated to keep trying to beat it for a few days, and I had already bought this on Xbox after Phil's praise back in April.
It's not quite for everybody, as there's no action of any sort in the game at all, but it's good if you don't mind a really simply game that's relaxing rather than intense. I don't mind the extreme simplicity and find the story to be touching. It's not exactly common to get something original like this, even if some people might find it boring. Sometimes it's good to escape into something simple like this after playing some "regular" games
I thought it was a solid game, maybe an 8/10 or so. Wouldn’t make my top 10 list for the year, but would probably hit my top 20.
Simply put far to many games I'm going to miss out on alot of them
I'm speechless.
Ok, Phil, ok. You've got me. I'll play it !
