Update: It has been confirmed that the next-gen update "will be free for everyone who already owns the game", and the free DLC will also be accessible to Xbox One players, in addition to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
Original story: We've known for a long time now that CD Projekt Red has been planning to release The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for Xbox Series X and Series S, and it has been confirmed once again today that the upgrade is slated for this year.
It's being called the "Complete Edition", and you can see the updated artwork above and below:
As the tweet mentions, the Complete Edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will also receive some free DLC based on the Netflix series of The Witcher, described as "extra items", although further details have yet to be revealed.
Rest assured, this will be a totally free upgrade for Xbox One owners of the game, so no issues there!
When do you think The Witcher 3 will receive its next-gen upgrade? Give us your thoughts below.

Really looking forward to it. I hope the loading times are much improved
Will my copy of the witcher III, with the dlc purchased separately, be upgraded to this "complete edition" or do I need the goty copy?
@VisitingComet1 The loading on Series S is insanely fast without this upgrade. It’s almost instantaneous.
Be interesting to see what they do with it. Loved the game but it’s massive not sure I’d jump in a second time. I want the cyberpunk upgrade before this tbh been holding off playing it
I picked The Witcher 3 up for sale shortly after it left Game Pass, but I've barely touched it. At this point, I'll wait for the upgrade.
@P3nguinprisM that was the one thing i disliked the most on the one x it was terrible load times. It made you experiment less with builds and other things I just stopped taking chances because of the three minute load times
Damn CD Project.. I’m waiting for two “next gen” patches now. The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Now I have plenty of time to play these big games again.. I’m afraid these updates are dropping at the end of this year when all the big releases are dropping. Looking at you Halo, Forza and Battlefield..
@VisitingComet1 Absolutely. It was a pain.
@VisitingComet1 there's almost no loading screens on the Series x/s like @P3nguinprisM18m said. And with Quick Resume you can just jump right in. This blew my mind because Ive only played TW3 on base ps4 earlier.
Does this upgrade the base TW3 game to the game with all the DLC or would the existing "Complete Edition/GOTY" need o be owned to get the DLC that's already out?
@Ocat I know right I am playing a lot of black desert right now but i would love the witcher and cyber next gen updates already
I'd have hoped we'd get some footage at this point, if it's coming out this year. Still nothing?
I have the GOTY edition but I haven't played it. Firstly, I was waiting for Xbox One X (2017) because my friend had it on PS4 and I realised it would play better on better hardware. Then I waited for my new TV (LG C9, 2019) and when I was about to start playing in 2020, the Series X/S remaster was announced. When I was a kid, I could barely wait a single day for playing the game I wanted LOL. Then again, I didn't have a backlog (N64 days).
@Dezzy Remasters are usually shown near release.
I’ve started this game 3 times. Got around 5-10 hours in and no further.
Looking forward to the next gen version.
4th time lucky!
@Hurblyburbly I actually played through about twenty hours of the game then we moved to texas and it took about 3 months for our stuff to arrive and I forgot where I was so started over the game is so good.
