The internet didn't exactly react positively to the news of Assassin's Creed Infinity earlier this week. While Ubisoft didn't directly say it was a live service project, a report prior to the announcement claimed as such, stating it would evolve over time - similar to games such as Fortnite and GTA: Online. These comparisons have understandably upset fans of the series, but the same author of the report has attempted to reassure readers.
Jason Schreier, known industry insider and author of the original report, reiterated what his article means and what he believes will happen. According to Schreier, "Assassin's Creed Infinity being a live service platform doesn't mean it's Destiny or Anthem". He added: "There will still likely be solo narrative Assassin's Creed stuff — it'll just be part of Infinity."
He also said that future games could be smaller in scale compared to recent instalments - a common complaint that has been around since Assassin's Creed Origins. While he didn't mention definitively what Infinity will be, from what he's heard he seems confident it won't be what many are fearing.
One Twitter user asked if Schreier could elaborate on what is meant by "live service" when it comes to Assassin's Creed Infinity. He replied: "Instead of a new game every fall there will be one platform that is constantly evolving and expanding with new content."
Earlier this week, Schreier claimed we probably won't see the game before 2024 at the earliest. Until then, we're not quite sure what Ubisoft has in store for the series. It has been revealed that Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be getting a second year of content following the final upcoming expansion this summer. After that, who knows? But what we do know is that Assassin's Creed Infinity is definitely on the way, whether we like it or not.
How are you feeling about Assassin's Creed Infinity a few days later? Let us know in the comments below.

This is exactly what I said in the first article and now we find out that people overreacted for nothing. Let's all just calm down and wait and see how this will turn out. Right now I'm fairly optimistic about this because I do want Ubisoft to go back to the traditional AC formula, at least for a while. Those games are just superb.
If this whole thing brings us back to stories that are actually about Assassins in a clear way and bring back the AC2/Brotherhood/Revelations era I welcome it. We already have kind of similar approaches for example MCC. Which gradually evolved and added ODST and Reach remasters later on. Infinity could be a hub for all things AC and add new content all the time too.
But I understand the reaction. every game franchise being interested in the "endless grind and content treadmill" approach has already caused some damage (rockstar sitting comfortably on GTA V for 3 generations from late PS3 to late PS5 era) being examples of that.
Might not be that bad, but my hopes aren't high.
I give it a few months before they announce the cancellation of the entire idea due to fan backlash.
@RadioHedgeFund it'll launch along side bg&e2. I BELIEVE!
Member when assassin creed was about assassins.... I member
I need more info to actually pass a judgment.
So yeah, curious about the final product.
The very fact this guy's called single player content "stuff" and is using terms such as "likely" is not a good sign.
Just one more game series added to the junk pile.
I'm also very amused by the "they could experiment with smaller AC content and not feel the need to make every game 500 hours long" portion.
The games are only even long if you're a completionist that goes after bloat like collectables. On top of that, if the studios weren't told to by the publisher, then smaller AC games could also be designed shorter.
However this is just a stereotypical case of creating a "solution" then attempting to fund problems it fixes to justify the existence.
Smaller games (within larger overall game) with more intense, concentrated story telling, less padding, sounds good, giving this a chance!
Maybe like the matrix, you could wake up out of the animus, surrounded by 1000's of others, and nip one for a different timeline etc
They'd better finally fix AC: Syndicate for PS5.
