Gears 5 Studio The Coalition To Showcase An Unreal Engine 5 Demo Later This Month

We know The Coalition is hard at work on the next Gears entry, but we haven't had an official reveal as of yet. An upcoming GDC presentation on July 20 at 1:20pm PT / 4:20pm ET / 8:20 UTC / 9:20pm BST will see the developer showing off an Unreal Engine 5 demo, and while it may not be Gears related, it will give us an indication into the graphical prowess of their upcoming titles.

During the hour-long showcase, a technical demo known as Alpha Point will aim to "internally evaluate" Unreal Engine 5, and give viewers a look into the graphics being used in future projects. The presentation is being targeted at "Unreal Engine licensees or anyone interested in getting a sneak peek at next-gen game workflows and visuals."

While the demo will take place on Xbox Series X hardware, "performance and memory observations will be covered for Xbox Series X and S, as well as VFX, Blueprint, material setup, Temporal Super Resolution, and Virtual Texture findings". Character creation is also getting a demonstration, but this will only be shown on the Xbox Series X.

The developer revealed back in May it would be moving over to Unreal Engine 5 development, and this will be our first look at it all in action. The team was also hiring for multiple positions earlier this year, which are said to "forge the future" of the Gears franchise. It'll be interesting to get a first look at what we can expect from the upcoming entry's graphics, and see just how powerful the Xbox Series X can be in The Coalition's hands.
