Remember the Portal movie that was in the works? Yeah, it had slipped our mind too, but apparently it's still on the way according to producer JJ Abrams.

In Abrams' own words to IGN, it's "finally on the rails" after being announced eight years ago. As it stands today, the script is reportedly in the process of being written, which means things could still actually be on track after all this time.

“We actually do have a script that’s being written for the Portal movie now at [Warner Bros.]. We’re really excited about the take and the pitch, so it feels like that thing’s finally on the rails.”

While no tasty details were dished on the project, Abrams did say the movie has "enormous potential", which will be "super fun". He also cited the "limited narrative" of the game, explaining that the potential is therefore huge.

“It’s got enormous potential for a lot of reasons, one of which is because of the limited narrative of the game, as ingeniously told as it is, the potential of it is so huge. It’s gonna be super fun.”

When probed about the Half-Life movie - which has been in development hell since 2016 - Abrams added that it's something he's "not actively involved with at the moment."

Either way, it sounds like progress is being made. That said, we've seen dozens of games confirmed or reported to be getting a big screen rendition, but many never see the light of day. The Gears of War movie has been in talks for around a decade now, but nothing has got off the ground. So we'll wait and see what happens with this Portal movie.
