A native next-gen version is something that was previously alluded to by the team, but now we have confirmation from THQ Nordic that an Xbox Series X|S version of Biomutant will be arriving in the future,
The news comes from an updated FAQ page on THQ Nordic's site. In answer to the question which platforms Biomutant will be available on, the Xbox Series X|S is confirmed for sometime in the near-ish future.
What platforms will it be available on?
- On May 25 2021: PC, PS4, Xbox One
- Sometime in the near-ish future: native version for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X
Developer Experiment 101 hinted towards a native next-gen version in an interview earlier this year. At the time they stated a PC version of the game exists which could be considered a 'next-gen version', but added: "We will see moving forward what's going to happen". It seems the high-end PC version will be making its way to next-gen systems. When we don't know - but it's coming.
For those who can't wait, the game is heading to Xbox One on May 25. Not long to go!
Will you be checking out Biomutant next week or awaiting the Xbox Series X|S version? Let us know in the comments below.

Huge backlog so likely will wait, especially if the BC version is just running 30fps.
Great news.
I'm already jammed for games to play, so I'll wait until the next gen version drops before buying the game.
Looking forward to this but likewise will add this to my Next Gen upgrade list and plough through the backlog.
It annoys me that "they" (most news sites) always just say Series X in the title. Series S does exist.
Got this pre orders for the ps4 but me having a series S this won't really effect me as the difference is minimal
And like some above me pointed out that the series X is the only one getting mentioned with all these nect gen upgrades/versions doesn't paint a good picture
“Nearish future” is quite vague. Are we talking a few weeks away, or months? I have it preordered anyway, so I’ll boot it up and see how it runs...and then decide to either dive in or put it on hold!
@SegataSanshiro This is exactly what i was going to post. I pre-ordered the game with the hope they would be making a next gen update so i guess i will just wait to play this just like i am waiting to start Cyberpunk.
@UltimateOtaku91 It's a great thing for us that have the Series X!!!
@UltimateOtaku91 They cant offer a Series X upgrade without a Series S upgrade. Beside, tweet itself says "- Sometime in the near-ish future: native version for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X"
Question would simply be, though, what will go into each console, as far as resolution/frame-rate or features? Given some devs insist on pushing 4k on the Series S at the cost of frame-rate, it's anyone's guess what this particular studio will pursue.
Personally, I would beg for framerate parity between S and X and just lower resolution.
@blinx01 My sentiment exactly. I took on too many games for May. I'm actually happy to have a reason to wait on Biomutant. I really want to play it, but I also want to realistically have the time to give it my focus.
I'm gonna hold off buying it now unless they confirm its a free update.
@abe_hikura
So far THQ Nordic have only had one native next gen upgrade game and they charged $10 for it, Wreckfest on PS5.
So that's why I'm not buying the Xbox One version, because chances are high it will be another paid upgrade.
@SegataSanshiro @blinx01 the wording of "native" has me concerned. Don't get me wrong I'm sure it's possible to describe any Series X/S upgrade as a native version, but I don't think anyone has before and it was free.
Good, I can definitely wait. This game looks great but I have tons of games to play right now so waiting for that sweet next-gen update is A-OK.
@UltimateOtaku91 It literally says... - Sometime in the near-ish future: native version for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X
Then, waiting for the next-gen upgrade, reviews, and probably a good sale.
I will definitely be buying Biomutant but I’ll wait for the X & S version. If I can resist the temptation.
@Tharsman the BC version runs at native 4k 2160p 60fps on Xbox series x
i may wait for the x/s version
I may wait as well... full price for a 30fps version does not worth it for me.
I generally wait for the best version of a game and if decent, will wait for the native Series X/PS5 versions complete with patches and likely any DLC.
Cool. I will wait for that version or for confirmation of a free upgrade before I get the game.
