Resident Evil fans will be happy with the steps Village is taking to advance the series, as it’s been mentioned the new entry will borrow a lot of inspiration from the fan-favourite Resident Evil 4.
In a recent interview with Official PlayStation Magazine (thanks, Wccftech), the game’s producer, Peter Fabiano, spoke about the latest instalment and how it riffs off Resident Evil 4 with its “blend of combat, exploration, and puzzle solving.”
“You’ll notice we took a lot of inspiration from Resident Evil 4. The team has put a ton of effort into creating a truly authentic feel. There are plenty of surprises to keep you on your toes; players will find a balance of combat, exploration, and puzzle solving.”
Additionally, Fabiano spoke about how the creatures in Resident Evil Village fit into the world, with Resident Evil VII and it’s protagonist Ethan being the basis for where the story continues. As a result, it’s expected to be the best horror survival game to date.
“This really helped to keep our vision on target. And since we are constantly sharing information across Resident Evil teams, that really helped inform us in making what we consider the best survival horror game to date.”
The hype for Resident Evil Village is high, and a recent showcase for the game gave us our most in-depth look so far. Not only that, but it was revealed a multiplayer component will also come alongside the game, acting as a love letter to the entire franchise.

I've recently replayed RE4 and for the most part it holds up really well, it does go too far with the shooting at some points and the last after part was much weaker then I remembered. I do feel the RE2 remake had a much better balance between exploration, horror and combat. I really hope it takes some inspiration from the first half of RE7 as well and I'm really looking forward to playing this
REIV was incredible so that's good.
I personally prefer my horror games to be more action oriented like REIV and Dead Space etc. I know a lot of people like the slower paced stuff and love the OG Resi style and even more pure horror games like Silent Hill but that's not my thing. I'm too much of a chicken to deal with the scary stuff and being super vulnerable at the same time.
RE4 was definitely my favourite in the series , well re7 on the psvr are was pretty amazing experience too!
So to hear that village is a similar vibe is fantastic news !
The influence was obvious from the start; the village setting, the merchant, the item management... It's good to see, and I'm looking forward to playing it!
Resident Evil 7 is good but at the same time disappointing because of the new characters, first-person view and gore. Resident Evil 2002 still is the best and the Xbox One remaster fixed the controls so I'm always hoping for a new game (9?) that is more classic survival horror and less gore and action. I hope that 8 is a step in the right direction.
