I broke my resolution not to buy anything with the RE Remake bundle so I figured: why not add to my library? Cyberpunk 2077 made me want to play a good cyberpunk rpg, so I bought Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mankind Divided. As much as I like CP2077, it's got nothing on Deus Ex to me.
@gollumb82 Cyberpunk just needs some more time to get cleaned up, it's a good game IMO but there is no point trying to rush into playing it too much right now, patches are going to make it a much better experience over time. I have experienced this kind of thing many times with Bethesda RPG's. As for now Deus Ex is a fantastic series with great games.
@JayJ
Here's the thing: I am enjoying CP2077, but there are a few things that Deus Ex does so much better. Implants, for example, are a disappointment to me. The soundtrack is way worse, Adam's apartment is a memorable location you want to go back to (at least to me). Guns in CP feel very samey, only with different stats and bonuses. Cars and bikes have poor handling. Stealth is much worse in CP than in Deus Ex. It's a good game, just not a masterpiece in my book. Patches won't fix that, I guess.
@gollumb82 No matter how good CP77 may be, it would have a long way to go to measure up to DX. It's a series with a 20 year pedigree and a position of being one of the best games (relative to its time) of all time that really redefined what games can be from a storytelling, scope, and scale perspective.
The original has aged very very poorly. I want a remake so badly. But you just can't overshadow that legacy easily.
Granted, CP is based on a 70's board game. But it doesn't have the legacy and effect on the world of gaming that DX does.
I, too, celebrated the launch of CP by continuing Mankind Divided. I'm hoping the hype machine for CP kicks Squeenix into finally announcing the third in the trilogy, or a remaster of Human Revolution, or a remake of the OG.
@NEStalgia
You made so many good points I'm just going to say I wholeheartedly agree 🙂 Deus Ex badly needs a remake and Mankind Divided badly needs a sequel. Cyberpunk 2077 has already proved to be a commercial success and I expect it to be held in high regard once all the patches come out, but Deus Ex to me is just a notch above CP in terms of world-building and actual cyberpunk themes.
