We were definitely pretty impressed when Ubisoft unveiled footage of Watch Dogs: Legion running with ray tracing on Xbox Series X, but we're even more impressed that the tech works on Xbox Series S as well.
This has been demonstrated by The Verge's Tom Warren in the video above, and as you can see, it still looks fantastic on the lesser-powered $300 system (the video also includes Series X footage for comparison).
Both versions of the game will run at 30 frames per-second when they arrive tomorrow (!), November 10th for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and according to Warren, there isn't a performance option for 60FPS as some had hoped.
What do you make of this footage? Give us your thoughts down in the comments below.

Just goes to show there is a massive amount of untapped potential in both of the Series consoles for developers to get to grips with and further optimize as time goes on.
Wonder what the excuse is for no RT in DMC5 for Series S?
The S impresses the more I see of it, I think today Digital Foundry will have a video up with Alex who's fantastic at explaining how RT works and he'll be comparing it to the PC
You can see reflections in puddles on the base xbox one version.. So what's the difference are they baked in and these are erm real time or however you put it
@StylesT They use Screen Space Reflections which break down as objects (or parts of objects) off screen are not reflected as they should be. Live/animated objects too are often not reflected either so reflections in windows don't reflect the people and cars moving about.
These are 'real time' reflections and without it, you get a mix of static baked in reflections - like buildings in windows and Screen Space Reflections - using data from the 'screen' to calculate reflections. However, if the top of a building is not visible on screen, it cannot be reflected so will be cut off. RT Reflections don't do this and they add much more realism to the scene.
@blinx01 I think the big reason is the game running at 60fps as well as levels that can have huge number of demons which affect alot the cpu so probably dmc5 raytracying will probably be like 520p compared to the ps5 and XSX which are struggling to go past 1080p 60fps, lets not forget that Watch dogs RT is only implemented on reflexions compared to dmc5 where the Devs probably want to replace the whole game lightings and shadows and reflexion with RT
This does look good. I'd say you can definitely see quite a difference in resolution between the S and the X parts of the video, that is to be expected though.
I noticed some artefacting around edges, possible reconstruction going on? Or just some dynamic res drops? Still looks nice, plus its a cross gen game so it wont really make the S and X sing.
I watched the Youtube video on my 1080p laptop screen and as I said it was easily noticeable, but I expect on a TV at a normal viewing distance it would look just fine.
I am going to plug both my X & S into my 4K TV to see how they measure up, I expect to be very pleased with the S, then it will go upstairs to a small 1080p TV anyway. I really feel MS might have a big seller on their hands.
@experTiger
Ah, right.
I just hope once AMD get their version of DLSS out the door, developers will be able to take advantage of this tech on Series X/PS5 to help make RT less demanding.
It does look really good and I'm pleased to see it since I've got a Series S due to arrive tomorrow (I plan to upgrade to Series X a little down the line when the price drops/my funds are more bountiful) and have had a few doubts the last few days over whether I've made the right decision since there have been a few not-so-much-negative-but-pessimistic reviews over the weekend. It still doesn't make me want to play Legion though - I've tried both previous Watch Dogs games and I just cant get into them for some reason.
I'm honestly(& pleasantly) surprised. Let's hope the trend continues among 3rd-party developers to implement RT on Series S games & with this proof, i'm assured enough that i can expect RT to be available as well on Series S 1st-party games whenever it's available on Series X.
