Now that the dust has settled slightly on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S launch, now seems an appropriate time to look at the past few weeks and the games we've all been playing so far.
From spending sleepless nights anticipating the release of Fable II, Daniel has always been a massive advocate of Xbox. His obsession with Fable was only the beginning of a love for the RPG genre. Outside of gaming, Daniel can also be found attending gigs or creating poorly constructed drum solos
Gears Tactics has sucked up most of my time. Really enjoyed it.
As for the launch lineup, it’s poor from the MS perspective, a couple of decent third party titles to play but it’s lacking. I’ve been playing the likes of Ryse and Ori opposed to anything ‘next gen’. There’s plenty for me to play though, all the Xbox one titles I missed out on, so in that way there’s actually more for me to play on the Xbox for now lol.
The fact that more than half of the games available to vote for are varying degrees of older titles tells you all you need to know about the Series X/S launch lineup. I've no doubt that ultimately this will be a great generation and there are some great games on the distant horizon but that launch lineup is dreadful
@Deljo hard to argue with that and its a long way away from the old days where you looked forward to all these new games which weren't even possible before. I mean Miles Morales and Demon's Souls are fine games yet I didn't need to get a PS5 to play them (though Demon's Souls is quite a big leap over the original). Astro's Playroom is the most fun I've had with these new systems but the reality is that with or without these new systems I would have been playing Spider-Man and Cyberpunk over this period, I just get to play them in a bit higher quality now
I always figured "launch titles" would be games that make use of the new consoles, new perks, new power, etc. I have the mcc xbo, so a xbsx upgrade is worth it. But for xb1x adopters, it's a hard pill to swallow, considering everything IS crossgen right now. Ps5 kinda did that with the astrobot game/controller and godfall, graphically(?). But the xbsx is missing that. And even then, I don't think halo: infinite is gonna be that title, either.
Yakuza Like A Dragon has pretty much my full attention. If you can get through the first couple of chapters it’s so good. Otherwise Tetris has been extremely good!
@K1LLEGAL it’s weird I preferred the first couple of chapters I’m on chapter 4 now and feel it’s dragging a little, but it’s still pretty fun, and funny.
It's a shame 343 have spent the last 5 years porting over old games instead of actually working on something new. Had Infinite made launch with a strong campaign, good use of the XSX power and a solid multiplayer it might have been a different story.
Phil Spencer surely looks at the attention the media is going thr PS5 launch lineup and wondering why he didn't have some big titles for launch. I know they're working on Fable but Playground could have knocked together a bi-annual Forza Horizon 5 instead of continually adding bits to 4. Heck they could have done a full remaster of the original as an XSX exclusive.
@Fenbops sorry yea the start is good! Then it dips, but from chapter 6 onwards it starts picking up the pace. Im on chapter 11 now. Don’t really want it to end haha.
Though it doesn't feel particularly "next gen," I've been enjoying Watch Dog Legions despite its dreadful save game glitch. Some of these missions are very fun, but not fun enough to repeat 4-5x because the stupid thing won't save my game.
Aside from that I'm all over MK11 and CoD Cold War (multiplayer). I've tried almost all of them and can safely say that it's ok to avoid The Falconeer and Bright Memory. You won't be missing anything.
It’s a bit disappointing. I think the Gears 5 “remaster” is the most next gen thing on the system so far. That game is beautiful. I think people that say Gears hasn’t been good since Gears 3 are just a bunch of people (probably PS4 only owners) that haven’t played the new ones. I think Gears 5 is right up there with Gears 2. As far as launch lineup, I’m not really upset I bought a XSX since I would’ve ended up with one eventually, but there really isn’t going to be much until 2022, it looks like. The good for MS is that I think Sony will have already released their major titles and will have a huge break around that time. Hopefully, MS can deliver on a bunch great next gen experiences.
I'm very much an Xbox fan, and want to see the new Xbox consoles sell bucket loads, but got to admit It's that launch line up that made me say 'eh, I can wait'. I do think the Series X is a fantastic machine and will defo get one in a year or so (if 2021 isn't a complete disaster). But for now my One X + game backlog + gamepass is plenty!
Also give me more detail's on the new Fable dammit.

I can't answer this 100% honestly because I only played Vallhala all this time. Slowly going through it collecting every bit of treasure 😁
I guess I can still vote for Yakuza even without playing it, since I preordered it... 🤔
It's a poor lineup but so's the ps5's. Been a pretty ***** 'next gen' so far to be fair...

@Deljo at least the PS5 has a couple of ‘next gen’ exclusive’s, but I agree neither’s is amazing.

Gamepass. All the new games sound super buggy.... hopefully when they come to gamepass they are fixed.

Been playing Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War MP.. Pretty fun game.. Reminds me a bit of the older Call Of Duty games..

Still playing the waiting game. But Planet Coaster is fun while I wait for the console to be in stock again.
Black Ops campaign was fantastic.
I found Watch Dogs to be ok, Assassin's Creed Valhalla was repetitive.
Just started Yakuza last night and WOW.. It's fantastic!!!
I've been playing through Devil May Cry 5 SE, I know it's just a remaster with a little extra but I'm really enjoying myself
@graysoncharles The thing is you're not wrong.

@RadioHedgeFund I prefer this way, Phil probably wants to kill the "xbox only has halo and forza".
I prefer having this upgrades to the old games for now and then new stuff well optimized for the hardware from the 23 studios.
