Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently took part in an in-depth interview with Kotaku regarding all manner of topics, including the potential of Xbox Cloud Gaming (Project xCloud) coming to consoles in the future.
Spencer has previously confirmed that this feature is in the works, but he took it one step further with Kotaku, telling the outlet that bringing next-gen games to Xbox One could "be a good way for us to bridge generations".
Tempering expectations a little, he also reportedly indicated that bringing Cloud Gaming to console is behind PC and iOS in the priority list, but it's not "years off", and the team knows how to get it done.
Regardless of how long it takes, it sounds like a very worthwhile addition to us!
Would you like to see Xbox Cloud Gaming come to consoles? Let us know below.

Now this is some pro consumerism on next level.
Crazy move but if anyone could do it and if anyone would do it it's going to be the big MS.
Could you imagine Sony doing this? LOL !
In Phil we trust..
My guess is it's the new plan for Halo Infinite. Thinking that for a while, now.
Making it exclusive to the Series consoles (and PC, off course) to make it look greater, and bringing it to the One (cause they promised it will be avalaible on it) by cloud gaming.
That could really work. In my opinion, that would be a win / win situation.
@Bobobiwan
Now that’s a great idea. I always wanted Halo Infinite as a series x / pc exclusive to show us the amazing power of the console and imagination of the Halo universe
Lol. They REALLY don’t care if you buy an Xbox Series X/S, do they? I love it.
I guess I’ll still use my one s for a little while longer
Hmm very interesting... Quite intrigued to see how this develops..
Called it. Next!
@blueocean remember me saying they'd do this waay back 200 pages ago?
@graysoncharles Series X games might look a little but worse on Series X, but not by much. 🤷♂️
@LtSarge I'm not sure why people are still so obsessed with getting units sold.
If a player is playing Series games on their Xbox One, they are still paying in to, and contributing to the success of, the xbox/game pass/xcloud platforms.
If MS cared about selling units we wouldn't be seeing these services on PC or mobiles.
@Richnj I'm just referring to people who primarily play on consoles. I can easily see myself utilising this feature as I don't plan on buying a Series X at launch. But I still have the OG Xbox One and I do want to eventually buy a console that's more up-to-date so to speak.
The cloud is everywhere.
@LtSarge I don't think they see that as a negative for them. Unlike Sony and Nintendo their game isn't about selling as many hardware units as possible so drive an install base to garner better platform licencing fees. They're a software platform vendor. The only point of them selling hardware units at all is simply to expand the market reach of their platform, and they're using the combined platform environments for their install base for licensing. It's just a really different model than Sony which is a hardware vendor first and foremost, and Nintendo which is all about using unique hardware and their games to generate install base for licensing.
They actually make more from you if you pay in and don't buy a Series. They're taking loses on those, meaning they're paying more for the hardware then they're charging us. The x1 steamer is all profit
I hope MS is working on making sure they outline their contracts in such a way that in the future, buying a digital game gives the player access to stream it (kinda like Stadia attempted to) while still being able to do the old-fashion download. Not every game will get to Game Pass, but that does not mean that a publisher cant try to reach players that are on a phone or on any thin client.
I can already kinda do this by keeping my own xbox online for Console Streaming, but would be fantastic if i bought a TV tomorrow, downloaded an app, and could just stream most my digital library.
@NEStalgia I think both you and @Richnj seem to have misread my first post. First, I know that Microsoft is focusing on Game Pass, I've been literally saying this in so many posts already. I don't need you guys to tell me this because you're making it sound like I don't know anything about Microsoft's business model (I've literally been here on this site ever since it was revived earlier this year, like come on I'm not a newbie, I've been following the news just like you guys).
Second, I don't know how you guys interpreted my post as me trying to insinuate that Microsoft only focuses on hardware. I'm just saying that out of a console perspective and from the perspective of other people, some might say that there's no reason to buy a Series X if the games are on other systems. That's not my personal perspective, ok? You're literally arguing with me about something that I already agree with you on, lol.
Anyway, I think I'll just delete my first post in order to avoid more confusion from other people.
@AJDarkstar While there's not zero cost running the servers, theyre not exactly building out new data centers for this, it's built atop Azure, and it's no doubt cost sharing to a point with hosted solutions fees, Office, etc. Ahh the beauty of horizontal scale at big data..... And this is why the world is consolidated behind a half dozen companies with more money and power than most governments....
(Edit: ironically that also means PSN is helping fund it....)
This always seemed like Microsoft's plan, support XB1 until Series X xCloud servers are ready for use on XB1 then stop releasing native XB1 versions. Then it's the user's decision, do you get Game Pass Ultimate and stream Series X games via XB1 or do you get Series X/S and get the games natively on the console. Microsoft naturally wants the former option to be more popular.
It's crazy. MS just don't want our money... Nah, joking. Sony is reliant on console sales (and games) so they 'believe in generations' (and then release their biggest next gen exclusives on last gen systems). I love what MS are doing! (Phil is probably the best thing to happen to Xbox in a looong time).
At least this way the games aren't limited in design by the Xbox One.
@NEStalgia Yes, it makes sense so Xbox One S and X can be used to play next-gen games. It's a good idea.
@Bobobiwan
That’s a great idea. Makes total sense.
I assumed they were already doing this. It’s one of those ideas that just makes sense. It’s really hard to see any downside. And MS have been making those logical decision a lot recently.
I been saying this for a while, but would be incredibly awesome if they could somehow make an xCloud client for XBox 360.
I still know people whom actively use their 360s and have no plan to upgrade due to limited budget.
