At one point in Halo's history, it was going to be a live-action movie directed by Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.
While we know Hollywood likes to do things differently, during a chat with IGN recently, Halo: Combat Evolved environment artist Paul Russel shared some worrying details about what this movie might have been like if it was given the greenlight.
According to what Russel had heard, the famous filmmaker wanted Chief to have an evil twin brother. Gulp.
"Master Chief had a twin brother, and the twin brother sided with The Flood, and then the end of the movie was going to be brother against brother."
"That's what Joey [presumably Joseph Staten, Halo 1's writer and cinematic director] was saying. Del Toro was pitching this to Joe at his house. He was punching Joe on the arm and going, 'And they're brothers! And they're going to fight at the end!'"
This dates back to around 2006, and in the end, Del Toro went on to write and direct Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. Although Del Toro has since moved on, Showtime is now working on a live-action Halo television series.
What are your thoughts about an evil twin version of Master Chief? Will you be checking out the Showtime television series if it ever sees the light of day? Leave a comment down below.

This. Would. Have. Been. Awful.
Luckily this didn’t happen!
Like dark samus
@xMightyMatt14x Aye, thank God this was scrapped as fast as Spartan 117 assassinates sleeping grunts. Looking forward to a live action show made correctly
I love del Toro, he’s my favorite director. He would have done an amazing job with The Flood, but this sounds like a terrible idea, I’m so glad it didn’t happen.
"...brother against brother.."
Oh, brother. Glad this didn't happen
Wow.....that sounds horrid.
Sounds terrible, and like it wouldn't even be about the Halo story.
Can Hollywood ever work outside regurgitated simplistic cliches? Watching anything that comes out of Hollywood is like playing The Library over and over again as your only game.
Typical. A professional suggests something new for Halo and the fans want to reject it /s
@Richnj It's a really cliched Hollywood movie gimmick that has been done in many films before.
@JayJ something being a gimmick that has been done many times before, hasn't stopped people defending its inclusion in to Halo before.
Thankfully, this never happened.
